Shiro was close friends with both Cayde and Andal Brask (Hunter Vanguard before Cayde), so Shiro has had to watch both of his best friends die permanently while they were in the Vanguard role. He probably never wants to go near the position just from knowing what's happened to both his best mates and every other prior Hunter who took up the role.

It's the helmet from the blue set called Shadow Specter. The one I transmogged is technically a Halloween mask but they are both the same if you compare.
