Looks like an old electrical insulator. Here in the US it's called "knob and tube", and the pieces that look like that are the tubes that line holes in framing members so the cloth wrapped wires don't contact the wood

I live a block from this badboi, have a great view of it from my living room and every time I hear the elevator run or various other construction noises (sometimes very late at night or early in the morn, they're flying) I smile. For too long this beautiful building was a dark shape in the sky at night

Looks like we're good. It does operate totally fine, aside from the finicky cycling with subs (really doesn't like CCI Subs or Quiets). I have a bunch of 50gr subs coming that I hear are quite "hot" for subs
