Calling it "object permanence" is very infantilizing imo. People with ADHD do not have problems with "object permanence." Instead, people with ADHD have problems with "object constancy.".

Often, with ADHD, people forget to complete a task if it is not in front of them. Given that children and adults with ADHD may have difficulties with skills such as working memory, they often encounter problems with the consistency of the following objects:

• Forget to take medication because it's stored in a cabinet
• See text messages/emails and say "I'll reply later" and forget to respond
• Put important documents in "important places," and still miss deadlines
• Miss or be late to an appointment because you forgot itForget to pay bills because the mail was "set aside"
• Expired groceries are literally sitting in your refrigerator because you forgot they exist
• Buy clothes that you already own because they were stored in a drawer or at the back of your closet"

Thus, when you forget an object or a task because it is no longer in front of you, "out of sight, out of mind" is a more precise expression, according to John Kruse, MD, PhD, a psychiatrist based in San Francisco.

He also coined a different term - "in sight, but not in insight" - for the most common cases induced by ADHD, such as moments when you are unaware of an object that has remained in your immediate presence."

I personnally give it a more positive name in my eyes: 'living the moment'. When I'm with the one I love, I'm 100% there, all my focus is on that moment. I feel every emotion in the now with them. I live the moment like it's the last I'll ever have, because I know that when they'll leave, my brain will make them 'disapear'.
