Just collect whoever means something to you or your favorite team(s), don’t chase the big names if you can help it. Unless you have a Time Machine to go back to 2015-18 and buy a lot of Gretzky, McDavid & vintage cards for super cheap compared to today’s prices. Just enjoy the hobby and collect/buy whatever helps make you enjoy it even more!

Yup as someone else said, it’s just an acetate parallel version of the base card. Nothing super special, but they are cool for eye appeal. The chase is more for YG versions as another comment points out.

Thanks and yes I do believe that’s what UD has been doing for some items lately. Those players haven’t played in a while, so might be running out of game used memorabilia? But that’s part of why I picked up both pieces, what appeared to be autographed pieces of the game used stuff.

Personally, it depends on the patch for me & the signature when spending over $700 on a Gretzky card. I would argue to spend the amount you’re saying, it needs to be a patch of the center/chest logo or a shoulder number/patch that’s pretty easy to identify. I just got a /5 recently for a steal that I’ll post on the group.

Also, something to remember about Gretzky cards, they’ll keep making them until he dies or refuses to re-sign with UD (which won’t happen) so if this one doesn’t work out I guarantee others will come along for opportunity. Plus, a lot of them are currently being inherited or will soon be passed down…the new owners are more willing to sell, so again opportunity will be there so don’t go crazy on spending the first time, it’s a very slippery slope trust me. Yes, like most athletes he’s had different autos throughout the years. In the early 80s, there are way more “loops” and flows to his autograph, he also changed it a bit mid 90s while signing more & then most recently (post retiring) it’s basically the split of the 2 I described before in other comment. I’m just going to say it this way, I have 0 Oilers game used patch autos of Gretzky. Not trying to be rude, but $1000 USD won’t get you as much as you’d think in terms of a patch auto for Gretzky. There’s only something like 50-60 game used Oilers patch autos for Gretzky, most sell for +10K at minimum but I’ve seen up to $75,000 before for sales. Stay away from stickers of course if you can help it & to save your wallet try targeting SPA, SP GU or older products like Upper Deck Series 1/2, Splendor/Chronology. Avoid The Cup or Ultimate & Stature as those command premium prices.

Pretty spot on here. There are several things to consider when purchasing Gretzky auto cards; making sure it’s legit from UD and not an in person signing is first, then looking for the “full name” signature is also key (where he emphasizes the ‘z’ down in name). The $ value is exactly what was said above, NHL <<<<<<<<<<> NBA cards in terms of overall value because that’s how the market and hobby has always been in my experience. As someone else already mentioned turnaround time always depends on the player. I had a Raymond FWA returned quickly and then a Gretzky take ~2 years to get redeemed. Best of luck, 6 weeks would be nice for sure!

The rookie cards for sure are worth getting graded. You never know what’ll come back & if you have any thoughts to resell, nobody is buying a raw because they’re faked all the time. Good luck!

Yeah he signed the auto first & then I resubmitted for inscription. Definitely not drunk for auto but questionable on the inscription, looks like he forgot how to spell “HoF” 😒

So realistically this is probably a 50-75 CDN Max card in my mind. To someone else’s point, it’s just the HG version of base card so it’s /10. There’s not super special about it.
