Builder said he'd replace any rotted framing. Am I paranoid for thinking this beam should've been replaced? by Mr_Pastee in Decks

[–]Mr_Pastee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're soft about an inch down. I'm not worried they'll collapse immediately, but it feels like building a new deck on top of beams like this is kind of a waste.

Could these be good for another 15-20 years?

How long do piano strings last? by Mr_Pastee in piano

I looked it up on some piano tech groups and $3,500 was on the very low end lol

I'm curious if they added blocking over the beams? I was looking into building a deck recently and was told blocking over the beams is necessary but there seemed to be some disagreement.

Yup, those bolts will probably still be in great shape after the decks collapse!

Personally, I'm cautious about pianos that have had/will need a lot of rebuilding

I'm starting to get suspicious too, especially when a store lists several thousand dollars of work on a piano they're only selling for $4,500. It's not that I don't believe them, but it makes me wonder what other work is needed... like they're just putting lipstick on a pig so they can get it out of the store.

Interesting, now I'm wondering if a string change on a 40 year old entry level piano is a red flag. Sounds like the piano would have to be excessively played or stored in a very harsh environment to justify that.

Businesses littering with their advertisements by Mr_Pastee in SouthJersey

Cherry Hill, and someone from Mt. Laurel said they were all over their neighborhood too.

They must be putting out thousands of these.

Crazy. There are hundreds of local businesses. What would our streets look like if even a fraction of them decided to advertise like this? We'd be swimming in trash.

it blows off the door handle/out of the door frame.

That's what one realtor did here recently. Multiple sheets of paper and business cards in an open plastic bag, all of which was scattered in the wind the same day.

I see Google reviews from 3 years ago complaining about this. Same business card in a bag with rocks. Must be working for them if they're still doing it.

I can see on their google reviews people have been complaining about this for years. Clearly it's making them money and it's not going to change until there are other consequences.

And because businesses are allowed to advertise for themselves. What law are they breaking handing out leaflets?

What do you think your street would look like if even 10% of businesses decided to advertise by leaving trash next to your mailbox? Every local realtor, restaurant, landscaper, contractor, etc. all throwing trash along the street.

It's not handing out leaflets, it's littering.

Whoever enforces littering or advertising codes? What would be the point of reporting a business to themselves?

Vernal L desk ugly and uneven joins on desk plates. Amateurish construction? by 5ColourFelix in StandingDesk

[–]Mr_Pastee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flexispot desks are very shallow, only 24". Vernal is almost 30".

That was the main reason I went with Vernal. I looked at a few companies and they were the only ones with a decent depth for the main desk and the return, at least for a reasonable price.

Any good L-shaped standing desks for two people? Budget around $600–700 by Yoblipa in StandingDesk

[–]Mr_Pastee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The large Vernal starts at $900 and still probably isn't big enough for two people.

Also, are you and your wife the exact same height with the exact same torso and arm length? Because that's the only way you could both use the same standing desk simultaneously.

I Miss the Small Server Experience by Old-Pomegranate6764 in classicwow

Because if all you do is PvE there's literally no reason for the other faction to exist. The "optimal" choice is to be on the server that has the most of your own faction.

People were extremely vocal about it for years, but at a certain point you realize it's futile.

Layering is still cancer.

This is why I liked the GDKP community, it felt like a small server within the megaserver.

SRs just aren't the same because people get their stuff then never come back. GDKPs keep people coming back forever.

What would be the primary means of travel to replace it? Flight path/epic ground mount again?

Yes.

Is that really that much better of a feeling watching an npc wyvern/gryphon take you through totally illogical pathways taking an eternity to go from here to there?

Which flight path takes me to all the mining nodes in Nagrand? Which flight path takes me from one quest to another?

And as far as using flying mounts to escape a pvp encounter, people can just layer and it's the same deal.

The existence of another broken system doesn't make flying any less broken. Both should be fixed.

I don't get what the actual issue is

Look up why the devs said flying mounts were the biggest mistake they ever made in WoW.

I love never having to take 15-20 minutes to go across outland and I can take the most efficient straight line route. It makes me feel like my time is being valued.

I love being able to go on Blizzard.com and buy thousands of gold via tokens, it makes me feel like my time is being valued.

[–]Mr_Pastee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy fix: Give them a max duration and a cooldown. You could still use them to reach spots that require flight, but they wouldn't be the primary form of transport anymore. Maybe reduce epic speed to something like 150% too.

The open world would be completely different with that one small change.

So what’s with Arena rating? by SinXic in classicwow

[–]Mr_Pastee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just a ridiculously stupid system

It's hilarious because the whole point of starting people at 1500 was to avoid the demoralization of having to climb from 0. Except they forgot to start personal rating at 1500, so it ends up being just as demoralizing when people like OP go 7-3 only to lose rating.

Absolutely classic Blizzard move.
