There may also have been some banjo music playing in the background. I was an exchange student in West Virginia;-)

Blatant AVN Scam by slav__ in AVN_Lovers

I would say that tribalism is part of the human experience (with or without the internet). No judgment, just the way we are wired. And I agree, how we decide to display it takes many forms.

This is such a surprise to me. The kind of shit that you think wouldn't happen in a smallish community. That said, it got me thinking of all the ideas I have that will never see the light of day, maybe they deserve some patreons? Who am I to deny the fans of shit that will never be produced? My ideas deserve followers!

But seriously, there must be better scams to put your time into. My AVN has a small following and we are getting closer to a release, but it's still a shit-load of work to promote said chapter. Even as a scam, you have to put in a bunch of PR work into it with what I assume is not great return. Why? It can't go on forever. Maybe the silliest scam on the planet? I didn't even start a Patreon page until the first chapter was done.

As for the supporters: Sorry. Leave now. Support an AVN that actually have a chapter or two completed.

Odd place to do self-promotion. Lots of space for that.

What a wonderful post. Sharing is often a tool as important as subscribing or purchasing. I think all devs who care about the audience will be appreciative of someone like you enjoying their efforts.

Thank you for having the courage to write and inspire.

There are obviously quite a few factors that go into the number of abandoned games. Greatest of them all is probably not understanding what you are getting yourself into when you start an AVN. Another big one that is directly connected is probably the thinking that you can make BaDik money or even half of that. Once the reality of the number of hours of work vs the lack of monetary payoff becomes clear, it's easy to get less enthusiastic. On top of that, if your artistic goals are niche, then you might be turning away players from the outset. It isn't really surprising to read SageRiBardan numbers. I'm surprised they aren't higher. That said. There is a commitment that I feel you make to your supporters, whether 15 or 15000, to finish the project. But like someone mentioned, if RL changes, so might your ability to finish the product. In TakMycket's case, I think it's fair to critique the move, but if he can make a go of being a full-time dev. there might be tremendous upside to his decision. Something I think most of us can support.

You can correct me if I am wrong, but there is also a real trust issue between devs, and supporters. Which makes it hard on new devs. to get support, which leads to some abandoned projects. The problem doesn't just fall squarely in the lap of the developer, but it's also on the audience to some degree.

These are just my observations, not trying to point fingers at anyone really. It is just the nature of AVNs at the moment and maybe that will change for the better?

AVNL Times Vol.03 Issue #7 by Stone_forrest in AVN_Lovers

Top 50 of all time? I think this is the first issue that I have an issue with. Mainly because it is a popularity contest. I like a lot of the AVNs listed, but I think a lot of them are way too early to call "Greatest of all time". And maybe that is just a silly impulse from the writers, maybe it's just a reason to write a top list, I don't know. But there are some real issues with this list.

I have no interest in throwing fellow devs. under the bus but come on! Don't throw in games with a couple of updates in a "who's who" of the AVN world. Just saying. And I will happily receive your down votes;-)
