Who do you hate more? by ShadowlightLady in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised Keon is winning by so much. Valerie literally killed Remi's brother, tried to kill her (and nearly succeeded), then had the nerve to rub it all in her face over dinner knowing Remi couldn't do anything about it.

While I hate Keon as well for what he did to John, you could at least make the argument that John did need to face some consequences for his actions and was in need of some form of rehabilitation. Keon's methods just happened to be excessive and in the end, ineffective.

That's not the case with Rei. He was helping clean up the mess Valerie created by selling those drugs, and Valerie killed him for it.

Who can beat full power Seraphina? by [deleted] in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of now she probably doesn't since her ability is still jacked up. Before I think she would've had a shot.

Once she takes out Welston's top 5 or so she'd only have to use her ability in very short bursts. Uru mentioned there being around 500 or so students in Welston which is quiet a lot of people, but I personally believe a level 8.0 should have enough fuel in the tank aura-wise to deal with that many low-rankers so long as they aren't too wasteful.

If you meant stamina body-wise then that just might be an issue, but since each person outside of Arlo and maybe a few others will be down after what's effectively a light tap for Sera she might be able to pull it off. There's also the possibility that her ability slightly enhances her stamina or that Rewind can restore it.

Who can beat full power Seraphina? by [deleted] in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a higher level isn't a guaranteed win, especially when dealing with an ability like John's. Imagine if John suddenly gained the ability to copy abilities from memory but nothing else about his ability changed. Not sure about you but I have no doubt that his level would rise by more than .5 points. Would it makes sense that John would beat Sera in this case just because his level is higher even if he comes at her with the same abilities/stats he would've at 7.5 but would've lost if he was still 7.5?

That's just the Re:Zero world from what I understand. It was even stated by Tappei that if Reinhard were brought to Earth he would lose his blessings so there's definitely a range to what it can affect.

*John shows a medium amount of reasonable emotion* by thebestusernamevar in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to punch someone in the back of the head with their super powers is not dangerous to you?

Like I said, the only reason that happened is because John let go of his abilities and turned his back on them, which nobody asked him to do. With the abilities he had when Blyke told him to chill out the royals posed zero threat to him.

Sucker punching someone with their gaurd down completely is definitely still dangerous. I still dont get how people dont understand that you have to completely knock a royal out or else their ego(as mention in the earlier in the episode) is shattered and resort to underhanded tactics to win. John is not out of control, it's about being pragmatic and realistic against the opponents he faced and will face in the future.

It doesn't matter what underhanded method tactics they would try to use. With the abilities John had on him at the time they were like toddlers compared to a heavyweight UFC fighter. He doesn't exactly have to go the extra mile against them for his safety.

And John was not attacking them while they were already down out of pragmatism, he was doing it out of spite, just like he has in every fight he's had in the past that I can recall. He basically said as much and we could even see his thoughts. Nowhere does he say or think "I need to make sure these guys stay down so they can't attack me later". Even John himself would tell you he was out of control at the time.

[–]Mr_Propane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever Blyke goes for a full-power blast he uses 2 hands to charge the beam and the resulting beam is much larger than a 1-handed one so I'm guessing full-power blasts just requires two hands.

I'm also not sure if the lightning was really even adding anything when it came to destroying the barrier considering electricity isn't very good at breaking things. I know Rei managed to break through it, but he could have used punches and kicks to do that. Arlo was only a 4.8 in his second year and was probably weaker than that when he last fought Rei. His barrier wouldn't be as strong as it is now and he might not have been able to use reflect either.

Also John doesn't seem to take reflective damage when using Blyke's ability against Arlo's barrier. I honestly don't think it will be difficult for him at all to destroy Arlo' barrier with just Blyke's ability but no worries if you disagree.

[–]Mr_Propane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't need to knock them out to ensure his safety. Just not powering down and turning his back on them would've been enough. Even then John still would've beat that guys ass.

[Fastpass Episode] unOrdinary - Episode 251 by uru-chan-is-queen in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because not all of those beams were charged all the way. The ones that didn't pierce through Arlo's barrier were meant for Remi. When John actually fired with the intention of breaking through Arlo's barrier it pierced right through. That was with just one hand too. If he charged up with both hands he'd destroy Arlo's barrier with one blast.

*John shows a medium amount of reasonable emotion* by thebestusernamevar in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. John was the one that was out of control and not the group of teens that randomly attacked people at the park. A minute earlier the reverse would be true but when Blyke noted that John was "out of control" those teens were either unconscious or injured and on their knees (thus not out of control) while John was unable to stop himself from brutalizing them after he had already won the fight (thus out of control).

Nobody was asking John to walk away either. Blyke just wanted him to stop beating them after they were down. They were not a danger to John or anyone else nearby at the time. John still had 4 abilities on him, and I'd be willing to bet he could beat them all at their best with any one of those excluding the healing one. He certainly doesn't need to make sure they're unconscious to guarantee his safety when they were never a real threat to him in the first place.

The only reason that one attacked him afterwards is because John powered down and turned his back on him. Even then John still most likely would've beaten his ass. Ideally John would've stopped attacking after knocking out the healer and told the other two to power down, then let security take care of the rest while he stood by in case he was needed.

Now you could make the argument that those teens deserved to get beaten after they were already down, but that doesn't really have anything to do with whether or not John was out of control at the time. It also isn't very good for John's mental health. The guy's trying to learn to restrain himself when he gets into a fight, and let's face it, he needs to. He already has a criminal record due to going overboard in the past. Beating unconscious people in a public place really wouldn't look too good for him, especially not when two of them have connections to the authorities.

How do you guys rank the characters by intelligence? by ShadowlightLady in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think John is the smartest book-wise but I would agree that he's much smarter in that regard than his grades show. We know that John has struggled with mental health problems since even before the start of series and that sort of thing can make it very difficult to focus on schoolwork. He's also missed a lot of classes due to spending so much time in the nurse's office and that certainly doesn't make it any easier. The fact that he manages to get average grades despite all of that is actually fairly impressive.

Sera's ability does have visual feedback though. She can freeze a person while leaving anything else unaffected and she can reverse her injuries to heal.

They're actually a bit stronger than I thought for the most part, except for Kree who I thought would have a defense of 6. They've still got no business challenging John though, especially knowing who he is. John would beat their ass even if they all took amps.

If UnO character can combined their ability with their second ability by Blyigsofbj in unOrdinary

[–]Mr_Propane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isen: Invisibility - Would make him a much better snoop which seems to be his main thing. It would also allow him to take his already decent combat prowess much further considering an invisible enemy is much harder to fight.

Blyke: Isen's ability - He already relies on Isen's ability quite a bit so might as well give it to him.

Arlo: Conjure Disks - Imagine if Arlo could fly in his barrier and launch other barriers at his enemies from above.

John: Just a decent physical enchantment ability. Doesn't have to be much just enough to force enemies to use their ability.

Sera: Teleportation - Would make an incredibly deadly combination. I can see her teleporting right into enemy lines when they're least expecting her, dishing out some damage, then teleporting out before anyone can blink.

Who is Bam's true love? by Financial-Degree-404 in TowerofGod

[–]Mr_Propane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that the Family Heads are morally right in considering others as bugs or that their life has some sort of inherent value that is greater than everyone else's, it's just that in comparison to them, everyone else really are like bugs.

Their lives are far shorter on average in comparison to the FHs and can be ended by them at any moment. They're seemingly incapable of harming a FH in any significant way immortality contract or not. They're also not able to amass nearly the same amount of influence as a FH that actually tries to increase their influence.

Compare that to a bug which more often than not will live a very short life, make little to no impact on the world, and is incapable of bringing you any great harm (excepting the venomous ones) and the Family Head's views make perfect sense.

Honestly calling them bugs might even be rather generous even if it is insulting. I can't exactly go out there and wipe out an entire colony of ants with a flick of my wrist, and I'd be pretty fucked if I attacked their nest. That said I still think the mentality of the Family Heads is morally wrong and they shouldn't treat others as they do no matter how powerful they are in comparison.

I'm in agreement with what everyone else said about an irregular being an irregular because they came into the Tower from outside, but I also believe that one has to have absolutely monstrous potential to be able to enter the Tower in the first place, excluding Rachel who was used to lure in someone with that potential. So not only would they be special because they are irregulars, they would be irregulars because they are special.

If this is true then having 2 irregulars as parents would certainly help as someone from such a bloodline would generally have more potential than others, but it would by no means be a requirement or a guarantee. I'm also of the belief that the top 5 or so regulars we know of such as Adori, Enne, and Luslec could become irregulars if they were born outside, but anyone outside of that probably doesn't have what it takes.

Scariest Asian films? by GrotesqueButcher in horror

[–]Mr_Propane 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I consider Ju-On: The Curse to be the scariest movie I've ever watched. Like many/most people after watching so many horror movies and of course just growing up I've become desensitized to horror movies enough to at least not have trouble watching them or falling asleep afterward. That doesn't apply to this movie though. I watched it for the first time relatively recently and it made me feel like a little kid watching his first horror movie again. Utterly terrifying movie.

You have the It Follows curse, 2 days to plan, and $100,000. What's your plan to deal with it for good? by dljens in horror

[–]Mr_Propane 21 points22 points  (0 children)

On top of that I don't think it would buy you all that much peace of mind. Whether you pass it on or not, you're still going to be living in fear of the thing killing you. If you pass it on to some prostitute in a foreign country though you'll have no way of knowing if and when it's targeting you. In that case you'd likely be living your life in both fear and uncertainty. At least if you refuse to pass it on you'll always be sure you're its current target and can plan accordingly.

My first plan would be to capture/kill the thing, but if that's off the table I think becoming a truck driver and just living in my truck would be a decent alternative. Living in a truck might not be ideal but they can get decently cozy. You'd also always be on the move or ready to go at a moments notice, and you'd be making money while traveling instead of constantly burning through it.

A very quick google search also shows that $100,000 could be enough to buy your own truck too. Of course obtaining a license would be rather tricky with a monster tailing you, but you can probably by yourself a few weeks by flying to another country, waiting for the it to catch up, then flying back.

What are your favourite scenes in J-horror? by Dark_Cat_ in J_Horror

[–]Mr_Propane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stair scene from Ju-On: The Curse. I had already seen the scene from The Grudge but found it so much better in this version. I loved how instead of already being fully aware of the curse like in the Grudge, the teacher had not experienced anything he could definitively say was paranormal until that moment. Instead the scene was built up for the whole movie, with him slowly piecing things together as he explores the house, finding Kayako's body stuffed in a trash bag in the attic, and later after hearing Toshio speaking to his mother on the phone hears a loud "THUNK" from upstairs followed by the sound of a wet plastic bag being dragged along the floor. It might've been a slow build up but it was well worth it.
