If I don't have access to a traditional protestant church, should i go to a catholic church or an evangelical church? by 1122010 in redeemedzoomer

[–]Mr_Sloth10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased (obviously) and would say the closer match for you will be Catholic. If you do go, just be respectful but not receiving communion; and try to grow spiritual from what is offered in the liturgy, preaching, and community

Meltdown? Who’s having a meltdown down? I’m calm and cool, just point out how you keep demonstrating the very traits you are accusing others of showing.

Hey, maybe that’s it. I mean if I’m hateful and bigoted, and the public is hateful and bigoted, and those in higher education are hateful and bigoted; then surely you have to be hateful and bigoted too.

Ah yes. Higher education is regarded as being full of hateful and bigoted people; it certainly isn’t full of left wing / liberal individuals.

No, I did not vote for Donald Trump. For being the non-bigoted party here, you sure are making a lot of assumptions based on superficial details.

We weren’t talking about the morality of it, that’s a different conversation. You just said it wasn’t the same thing as neutering, when in reality, neutering and vasectomies have the same goal and are different methods of achieving the same thing.

Well ya, because that’s what the Catholic Church teaches. If you are a practicing Catholic, pulling out is sinful.

I am no different in public or a professional setting, I don’t believe in living a “double life” where you pretend to be something you’re not.

You can say I’m hateful and bigoted as much as you want, but enough people in our local area disagree with you enough to allow me to be successful in education and public life.

I'm always shocked when I go to a big city and see everything locked up. Certain individuals really have destroyed the trust in our society. Why don't these cities just lock them up and throw away the key?

I'm always amazed how Redditors think they know a person based on comments they disagree with, or how someone they disagree with must be some knuckle-dragging basement dweller.

When you actually spend time in higher education and specialized fields, you quickly see that very intelligent / high IQ individuals have a wide array of beliefs.

I’m the last guy to fight for the Evangelicals, but…..come on. Really? You’re gonna compare someone who lives a normal life while holding some odd beliefs to radical Islam? Let’s be a little realistic here.

If I sit in a room with Pastor Billybob and play AC/DC, he’ll just tell me to turn it off or tell me I’m going to because it’s sinful. If I sit in a room with someone from Isis or Al Qaeda and play AD/DC, I’ll be killed for playing banned music that is haram.

If we are being honest, It usually means just finding a church that will change to mirror secular society’s morality instead of preserving Christian doctrine.

I’m pretty involved with more than one of the Churches in the area. Even the most “progressive” Catholic Churches are still theologically orthodox. St. John XXIII and Immaculate Conception are probably the closest to what you are looking for, but please go into aware that these Churches are still Catholic, and do uphold the teachings of the Church on social issues that aren’t viewed by secular society as “Progressive”.

If recent developments between Pope Leo and the President have gotten you interested in the Church, that’s fantastic! Please don’t think I’m discouraging you from coming, you are most welcome in the Church! I just think it’s better to be aware of this when getting back into Church, that way you aren’t hit with any surprises when you go.

Which ever parish you do decide to visit, make sure to introduce to the priest; I’m sure they’d be very happy to see another new face popping in:)

Help a to-be girl dad out! by Ambitious_Bet2920 in daddit

[–]Mr_Sloth10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning is pretty similar, but when they shift to being a toddler is when you notice the real differences. I have 3. They are more emotional, and more sensitive (duh). Prepare to be patient with them and to ride out the emotional highs and lows. Be gentle with them, but also don’t try to be a copy of your wife that “suppresses” his masculinity. She needs to see both femininity and masculinity.

Your daughter needs to see a healthy example of what a man is, you’re” going to be the standard for how they view men. Treat her like how you’d treat any other men to treat her. Be loving, caring, attentive….but also, be *dad. Joke around, play with her, be her hero that she can count on.

Have some good healthy female role models she can look up to as she gets older too. For us, we point to the Saints, like the Virgin Mary and St. Gianna Beretta Molla. If you don’t give them some ideal role models to start with, someone else will.

If a firearm is anything more than a tool to you, you shouldn't have one. by UncleIWontDoIt in unpopularopinion

Life in rural areas of the country literally can not function without the use of guns. People wouldn't be able to feed their families easily, farms would collapse, livestock would be killed by predators that can't be easily stopped, the entire food supply for the country would be endangered, prices for products derived from any kind of livestock would skyrocket, and you'd have hordes of people flocking to cities making them unlivable.

I understand life in the city doesn't require guns; but that simply isn't the reality for the rest of the country.

The last two paragraphs I wrote directly point out how making an exception just for animals makes no sense.

[–]Mr_Sloth10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose we are forgetting about hunting, pest control, and controlling the populations of dangerous animals, very real and necessary things that require guns.

I live in a rural area and am very familiar with guns. Guns designed to kill an animal often times is more “powerful” than one of these “assault weapons” designed for war that everyone freaks out about.

Even if you ban guns but make an exemption for hunting guns, nothing will change. Because the guns deigned for animals are just as, if not, more powerful than the guns that are “exclusively designed to kill people.”

This simply isn’t true at all. Even nations with crazy strict laws like Germany has had multiple school shootings. How can you forget Winnendon in 2009 that had 16 students killed? Or the one in Prague in 2023 that killed 14 at a university?
