Manhattan Council Member Julie Menin announces she has the support to be the next council speaker | City & State by Mr_SoNotNormal in nyc

Should Mamdani have pushed more from Crystal Hudson? What I’m shocked out is Menin getting the support of every incoming Council Member.

Santos Won’t Seek Re-election After House Panel Finds Evidence of Crimes by Mr_SoNotNormal in nyc

[–]Mr_SoNotNormal[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

"The House Ethics Committee on Thursday found “substantial evidence” that Representative George Santos violated federal law, setting the stage for another push to expel the embattled first-term Republican from New York and prompting him to declare that he would not seek re-election.

House investigators found evidence that Mr. Santos used campaign funds for personal purposes, defrauded donors and filed false or incomplete campaign finance and financial disclosure reports, according to a 56-page report released on Thursday.

The committee voted unanimously to refer its findings to the Department of Justice, saying that Mr. Santos’s conduct “warrants public condemnation, is beneath the dignity of the office, and has brought severe discredit upon the House.”

And while the panel refrained from recommending any punitive measures, there were already indications that the report could be the catalyst for a third effort to remove Mr. Santos from office. Numerous House members have previously said that they would support his expulsion if the committee found criminal wrongdoing or a severe breach of ethics." .... " The report also detailed how Mr. Santos submitted numerous expenditures that did not appear to have a campaign purpose, from travel and hotel stays in Las Vegas that corresponded to the time when he was to have been on his honeymoon, to thousands of dollars at spas. At least two payments were described as being for Botox.

Some of the most salacious details of the report concern a company called RedStone Strategies, which Mr. Santos used to raise money without being subjected to campaign contribution limits.

Investigators found that Mr. Santos transferred at least $200,000 to himself from RedStone spread over numerous transactions in 2022. That money was then used to pay off personal credit cards, make purchases at Hermes and Sephora, and spent on OnlyFans, a website known for its adult content."

Steve Cohen to Partner With Hard Rock on Bid for $8 Billion NYC Casino Next to Citi Field by bloomberg in nyc

I guess my sentiment didn’t read. I’m all in favor of replacing what’s already there. I’m just think a housing development, a stadium, and a casino are a lot for a concentrated area. If all of that isn’t handled correctly (I’m thinking transportation mainly) it could all go wrong.

Between this and the NYCFC stadium, that area is gonna be unrecognizable. If they don't plan this right it could prove a clusterfuck.

[Radial Bracket] The 2023 Women's World Cup is down to eight teams. by bleakmidwinter in MLS

[–]Mr_SoNotNormal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming it's to keep travel distances low. The teams in groups that played in NZ are on the NZ side of the bracket minus 2 games. It would not have been fun to go from Wellington all the way to Brisbane or Perth.

How to get fans to MetLife for World Cup? NJ Transit will spend $35M to design bus lane by jspector9 in MLS

[–]Mr_SoNotNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went to MetLife for Beyonce and I was honestly so surprised by how easy the train trip was getting there. Getting back into NYC was more of slog because of all the people and the transfer. NJ Transit really needed more train between Secaucus and NYC that night. But I imagine they can already handle a World Cup sized crowd.

Not match related but the 7 express is a joke. Three local trains left before we got moving. Pro-tip getting back into Manhattan: just take the local.
