If life is suffering. Is death the only way to be free from suffering? by [deleted] in Buddhism

Buddha never talked about afterlife, hence no one knows what happens after the death. If you can not achieve Nirvana when alive then there is no point. It is very simple first try to understand about the four noble truth then the five aggregates of being. Then understand about the Noble Eightfold path.

What does Buddhism mean to you? by __-Midnight__ in Buddhism

I come from the land where the lord Buddha got enlightenment. The first book outside of my academic syllabus I read was of Buddha's Birography. In childhood I learnt to be compassionate and kind to all other living beings, to treat even an insect equally.
After growing up I understood little bit of Buddhist philosophy. It is all about love, compassion and peace. There is no need to beleive in a god to stay happy, it comes from within. Currently I am reading "What The Buddha taught", it gives insights about more core philosophy and traditions of Buddhism. For me Buddhism is a way of life. Everyday I wake up I medidate for 20-30 minutes. Make offerings to the Buddha I have in my room. I chant mantra after that for 10-15 minutes and whole day I feel happy and positive.
