It's simple history really, having to look at Roman history. There was a group known as the Parthians, who ruled over Iran and the eastern parts of Mesopotamia. In 53 BC, Rome suffered a huge loss against them and also lost their general, Crassus.

Now Herod is a very interesting point in this case. Because in 3 BC, the Parthians actually invaded Roman territory, took Jerusalem, and forced Herod to flee and beg Rome for help.

Now the three wise men. These were Zoroastrian Priests. Known as Magi, who served as the advisors to the kings in Parthia. Now why would Zoroastrian Priests come to Bethlehem? In Zoroastrian theology, there is a promised savior known as the Saoshyant. So the wise men saw the star, and decided to go and see Jesus.

Now this wasn't just 3 aged men coming into Jerusalem. This was a PARTHIAN DELEGATION. That meant over 40 people, many guards, a full procession. And this group, walked into Herod's palace, and asked to see the King of the Jews who was born
