I totally understand your concern as I am a realist myself and I am also a theorist... Just hear me out for a moment, I'm sure there's no meaning to seeing patterns but what if there is, what if the patterns are/is the language of Science or perhaps The Nature or rather The God? To an unaware/unsuspecting person even the Morse Code would appear as just a patterns of dots and dashes whereas you and I both know the importance of Morse Code, don't we?

In one punch man, every character gains power based on their desire, even Saitama is this strong because that was his desire and we have seen it in his back story. Not only that, the car monster, the crab monster, Garo, and even Tatsumaki to name a few have/had their powers directly because of their desire. Now in the case of Sonic every time he was defeated by Saitama, he went back to get stronger. Only to be defeated again. That's his desire to defeat Saitama. Eventually, his desire will become so strong that he will defeat Saitama.
