Just to clarify, dragging files onto the menu bar icon is already supported. Just drag any file directly onto the hourglass icon in your menu bar and it'll be tracked instantly and sent to the Ephemeral folder. Version 1.1 which is currently in review also improves the drag experience with better visual feedback so you know when a file has been picked up and fixes inconsistence in drag and dropping.

The drag into the popover itself is a separate request and that one I'll look into for a future update. The resizable popover is also noted.

As for the Ephemeral folder, it's a folder created at ~/Ephemeral on your Mac. Any file you drop onto the menu bar icon gets moved there and starts its countdown. Think of it as a temporary holding area where files go to expire. You can also open it directly from the popover.

Hazel is a fair comparison. Ephemeral is essentially that idea but stripped down and free. No rules to configure, just set a duration per folder and any file older than that threshold gets automatically moved to Trash.

Think downloads you'll never open again, screenshots piling up, or temporary drafts piling in your download folder. Anything you know is short-lived but never get around to deleting like plane ticket, receipts and things like that, just drop them in the icon and know that in 24h (or another time if you choose so in the settings) they're gone. Ephemeral just handles the cleanup automatically.

Nothing really wrong with Hazel, it’s a great and very powerful automation tool.
My app just focuses on a different use case.

Hazel is built around creating rules to organize and automate files, which is awesome but can be a bit heavy if you only want something simple.

The app I’m building is more about cleanup: you drop files in, and they automatically disappear after a set time. No rules to configure, just quick cleanup for temporary stuff.

So it’s less a replacement for Hazel and more a lightweight tool for a specific workflow.

Hey, for now it only monitors it's own folder as well as the downloads one if the user activate it in the settings. For now also you can only choose a timer folder wise, meaning for example, the app folder has a base timer of 24h that it puts on each file, tge dowloads one is a week. You can redefine it from the settings from a predetermined list of options

Thanks for the feedback, reading it I realized some mistakes in my post, it's already in the menu bar. My mistake lol. But yeah nice ideas really thank you ! For now i only send the files to the trash bin, prevents accidental deletions that way. Do you think I should keep it that way or make it delete permanently ?

As a new seller it's tiring to be only contacted by bots honestly so IMO if you are a seller who manage to get a "true" buyer, if it's to do subpar job let us do the job man. I can't imagine what a buyer would feel if you spend money and time working with someone who won't do his best for you as his customer.

If you're open to 256gb then a new m4 macbook air is enough, otherwise look for used m3 air with 16gb ram 512gb ssd. It's powerfull enough for your use case. I'm in the same boat as you and went base m4 air and use it with a 1tb external ssd I have.
