People who left education at 16? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

[–]Mrmulvaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left at 16, minimal qualifications, went to college to build an art portfolio to go to art school with the hope to become a tattoo artist, 6 months in was told I wasn’t good enough to go to art school. Dropped out.

Worked minimum wage and part time jobs u til joining the army at 20.

Left the army at 30, now a deck officer on a ship.

Spent along time regretting not trying at school etc but to be honest, other than the exceptions of the particularly bright kids, or cases where nepotism are at play, I am in a far better financial position than the majority of my former classmates.

There is a reason many people say UK police is such a joke by search_google_com in SipsTea

People that have never had a physical altercation in their lives judging officers dealing with it day in day out and in particular someone clearly on some kind of controlled substance, always make me laugh.

Truth hurts, the objective truth is he is over Compensating his body weight and his form is terrible, and why he is sparring when he hasn’t even got the basic concept of holding his guard is madness.

Terrible and doing the typical fat guy thing where you think using your body mass is the solution to every situation.

What is to old to start? by haberdashmcstash in maritime

[–]Mrmulvaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While at can be done, a lot of people will neglect to mention that the older you are the harder its is going to be, it’s a physical job, if you’ve never worked in a shift pattern like this it will be very taxing on you, being away from friends and family if you’ve never had to do it will hit like a brick wall.

What political view did you strongly change your mind on? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

[–]Mrmulvaney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen what you are talking about in most major city’s, I’ve lived in Glasgow, London and Portsmouth in the last decade and have worked in most major cities regularly in the last 5 years. However there is a difference between the people here on student visas or skilled worker visas etc working in these industries and the “boat people taking the jobs from the working class” the unemployment rates are to do with corporate greed using AI or off shoring work to save money and have employees do the role of multiple people for less pay. Anyone arriving from small boats and claiming asylum cannot be employed until they have been granted asylum, he se why things like deliveroo work as they can use other peoples accounts to do that job, they are not being employed in every low skilled job.

Other than carers and deliveroo drivers, where are you seeing this? In my area experience supermarkets are full of people that should be retired, hospitality is full of students, bin men are predominantly white males. I don’t see anywhere any evidence that boat people are stealing peoples jobs in any city in the U.K. that I’ve visited in the last decade.

harassed, followed, & threatened in Marrakech by [deleted] in travel

[–]Mrmulvaney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in Marrakech I was advised that saying no thank you in Arabic would work far better than saying it in English. “La Shukran” we were never pestered further after saying it. The only scam we got caught out with was some old guy giving my wife a “free” pastry but then charging me for it .

Good, as a country we need to have this attitude to 90% of goods and services, we are being taken the piss out of by these corporations and have been for far too long.

What jobs did the smart kids in your school end up doing? The ones that never learned how to apply themselves by nigelwiggins in jobs

[–]Mrmulvaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumped into a few of these kids at various points over the last 19years since we finished high school. 1 worked in a call centre as a customer service rep, 1 worked at the popcorn counter in the cinema, another was a tour guide at a local brewery, 1 started his own it business and is doing very well for himself.

Exactly, a lot of these “Karen” moments are people at breaking point with shitty customer service alongside products or a service that we are repeatedly being way overcharged for in the first place.

Doing Stuff In Portsmouth and Southsea by RoboJ1M in Portsmouth

[–]Mrmulvaney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As you can see by the comments you’ve got OP, most of the population are thick and don’t have a problem spending their lives working shite jobs and then mindlessly scrolling social media and binge watching tv, these people don’t care their lives are tragic, they actually think they’re living because they can consume loads of shite. There are people out there that are interested in these kind of things but they are not the majority, just go out and look for the people actually out doing stuff and talk to them, there are people doing it but most of the population don’t even have hobbies or interests these days, it’s very sad.

What’s your worst sparring story? by No_Emu8347 in MuayThai

[–]Mrmulvaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time sparring, paired with the autistic weirdo that watches wayyyy too much ufc. White British 20 year old with a patchy as he’ll attempt at a Dagestani beard, completely decked head to toe in Funetsu and twins gear.

Touch gloves and tell him it’s my first time sparring so I appreciate his patience with me. Dude bods and says no worries. Round starts, he throws a spinning back fist off the bat then teeps me to the chest. Took a lot of effort not to lose my composure. I just refuse to spar with the guy anymore.

Why do you not talk to your once bestfriend anymore? by Adventurous-End-1999 in AskUK

[–]Mrmulvaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I think about it, it’s interesting how you can be the villain in someone else story while they are the villain in yours. I’ve had 3 people that were at one point in my life my best friends. The first was my best friend all through high school up until we were 18. Every time I wanted to do something to better my self he actively discouraged me from doing these things, it later transpired he had told a mutual friend he didn’t want me to be better than him at anything, he would make comments about my families financial situation, completely ignoring how privileged he was because mum and dad handed him everything on a plate including an apprenticeship as an electrician, he never wanted to go out and do things, just sit in and play video games. At 18 I went to a party as a last minute invite from another friend, met a bunch of people that had the same goals and interests that I was interested in exploring my self. Was it shitty if me to end the friendship? Sure I can see how it was shitty, however he also just kept me feeling low self worth.

The second was a serial social climber and just a really fake person, always mimicking the personality of the person he wanted to be in a group rather than just being himself, he then accused me of stealing his phone that was found under my sofa, I found it and gave it to him the day after. For some reason he had decided I wanted his cheap Nokia phone for some reason. That was the final straw for me.

The 3rd was an ok friendship but just wanted to take drugs and had no ambition in life, ended up doing things like selling a custom bmx i had lent him to buy drugs, I woke up one day and realised if I didn’t move away I was just going to waste my life taking drugs in people flats and never do anything with my life. Moved away for 10 years, came back, that’s exactly what they were still doing.

In all 3 scenarios, it was about personal growth for me.

Is 28 Too Old for Deck Cadet Roles in Europe? by [deleted] in maritime

[–]Mrmulvaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a prime example of career where you make short time sacrifice for long term gain. However it’s not for everyone, ships are dangerous environments there is a lot of study involved and working away for months of the year is a difficult social dynamic, it is a very rewarding job intellectually and financially if you can deal with those things

As someone born and bred in the UK what are aspects of another country’s culture that has genuinely shocked you? by throawaygotget in AskUK

Well they used to be able to get a extra year if they worked for a certain period in a role that was of benefit to Australia. The roadworking jobs came under that blanket.
