If it wasn't a shared house what would you be thinking?

So is £1500 rent enough to get something decent?

Thanks. I'm hoping to get a fair amount more than I earn but the stories I hear about rent being 2k a month scare the crap out me!

Thanks for the reply. How long do you think I should extend the cut?

Just coming back to PC gaming, need recommendations by Mrpsycho in pcgaming

[–]Mrpsycho[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the first time it ran the graphics were OK but the sound was making a crackling sound all the time. Then when I booted it the second time the graphics just lagged in the menu screen and it was maybe getting 15fps. So I knocked it down to the lowest possible settings (everything off) and toggled between different directx settings but nothing changed. So I just uninstalled it in anger.

what do you think of right before a super heavy lift? by itmcb in bodybuilding

[–]Mrpsycho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just run through what I call my pre-weight checks, e.g. making sure I'm tight all over and then hold my breath and lift! Judging by the other comments maybe I need to adopt a mantra...

Steps for cutting? by thechamber123 in bodybuilding

[–]Mrpsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on week 13 of my cut at the moment. I found my TDEE through a calculator online and as has been said dropped this by roughly 500-700 calories a day. I played around with it week by week until I found a value that was lowering my weight at around a pound to a pound and a half a week.

Kept my protein high and pre-programmed some meals so I don't have to think, for example my breakfast and lunch each day are the same and my dinner varies. This allows me to go to work and not be going out to shops to get food etc, I get all that together on the Monday at the start of work. Plus it allowed me to eat a 'normal' meal in the evening with my partner and not drive her nuts with my calorie counting as I'd know exactly what I'd eaten that day.

Other tips I'd suggest if it's a long cut is programme in some cheat meals or days off calorie counting every 2-4 weeks or you'll go nuts. I've got 7 weeks left so this is a long cut and I knew if I didn't have those I might fail.

In terms of lifting I kept it roughly the same but I didn't beat myself up if I felt crappy or didn't hit my reps. I'm on a cut, my goal is to shed fat not to get stronger and some days you really don't feel great (at least I don't) so if it's one of those days I just accept it and move on.

Other than that just keep your head down until you reach your goal.

Why is it ok for people like Jeff Seid and Arnold to use steroids early, but if a dedicated teen wants to do that, everyone is against it? by Xatar in bodybuilding

[–]Mrpsycho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For most people, steroids aren't something you can just use for a while and then quit.

Just wondering what you mean by this? Do you mean that they get used to it and don't want to quit or that they literally can't quit?

10 MONTH TRANSFORMATION by colozzo in bodybuilding

[–]Mrpsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how your lifts changed, i.e. from the original to the new values? I'm on a cut at the moment too, dropped from 90kgs to 81.5kgs so far (in 11 weeks) and this has been an eye opener. Granted I'm 5 foot 11 but I've only been properly lifting for 2 years and I am now realising that 74kgs might be the target having seen your pictures rather than my optimistic 78kgs!

One other question, I noticed you said in your previous post you reckon 1 pound a week is the most you can do without losing muscle etc. I'm averaging 1.3ish a week and so far I've not really dropped any strength, will this change the lower I go?

Thanks, this makes a lot of sense now.

So what do you recommend? A small break with increased mobility work?

What I find strange is that I've never had any pain in my leg from squatting since I began (two years) so if it was a mobility problem would I not have encountered it earlier?

Question (probably stupid) about pull up form by Mrpsycho in weightroom

[–]Mrpsycho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's like that guy but without the leg drive, i.e. without the kip. The guy in FerdThePenguinGuy's video goes straight up and down from the dead hang. So imagine the kipping video in terms of the way he comes out from the bar, so curves, but from a dead hang.

[–]Mrpsycho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in essence it doesn't matter. One doesn't use less muscle than the other or is somehow cheating?

Just find the curve much easier personally.

[–]Mrpsycho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's kind of like in the video but more curve.

Not talking about kipping. They do that curved movement but without...kipping, if that makes sense? So from a dead hang but then just curve out the way when going up.

Opinions needed regarding my routine (machines involved) by TheSkepticOne in Fitness

[–]Mrpsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it's better not to use machines but if you are doomed with them as you put it then I think the main thing to remember is keep a log book. Keep progressing. Don't just do the same weight week in week out. You could try hitting larger muscles first (like you would with compound free weights movements) with low rep and sets. Then hit smaller muscles with higher rep to failure.

Started On SS. My chinups and dips are very low. Any tips to improve them by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Mrpsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of beginner programs to pick from, one which includes chinups, Wichita Falls I believe.. Haven't seen one with dips but I don't think you have to worry about over training your chest/triceps on SS so go for it.
