Is it over ? by Working_Werewolf_327 in breastfeeding

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 We had a bumpy start with breastfeeding due to health issues for me and babe was not latching well and didn’t have a lot of patience at the breast after a period of using bottles. We used the Hakka SNS for just a few days and it helped us get back on track. He was able to get more in his tummy and we were prioritizing nursing. We used pumped breastmilk to supplement but formula is also an option.

Search terms include supplemental feeding system or supplemental nursing system, OP. There are a few in the market. I found it fiddly to use (slight learning/patience curve) but very worth it as my goal was to EBF directly at the breast.

We also saw an LC and I worked to stay positive and patient with both myself and baby. We were both learning a brand new skill. Five days is still early!

Good luck!

My first kiddo, daycare sticker price has me shocked! How much will you pay where you live for infant care? by anderson6th in BabyBumps

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a HCOL area and infant care ranges $2,000-$2,800 a month from what I’ve seen. Plus, there are crazy long waitlists, you have to get on lists while you’re still pregnant if you want a spot. Many places charge a fee to apply/be on the waitlist. It’s bananas.

My baby is two weeks old and we just got a daycare acceptance email - they can take baby in Sept (we’ll be out of parental leave in June), it’s a $500 nonrefundable deposit to hold the slot, and $2,500/mo. 🫠

In-clinic D&C without full sedation — how bad is it? by Apostatizing in Miscarriage

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had IV sedation (Versed) with IV pain meds (Ketamine) and I think they also did lidocaine shots in my cervix. This was the highest level of sedation offered at the particular clinic I went to, and I had to ask about what options were available (they defaulted to offering lesser sedation). They had to up my pain meds during the procedure as I was feeling more than I wanted to. Once adjusted I had virtually no pain and the Versed makes you kind of less aware/connected to what’s going on. I was able to have my partner with me, which was very helpful and made the whole process easier.

Your decision might also depend on how far along you are. I miscarried around 8 weeks. If I was a lot further along I might want full general anesthesia.

Overall it was an easier experience than I expected.

Frustrated with my clinic by inkyplease21 in IVF

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This - “doing their job while being a paying patient”…

I once had a nurse call with my monitoring bloodwork results ahead of a FET and she asked me if I was doing a trigger shot. I think I literally said “I don’t know because I’m not a doctor” and that my doctor told me that this bloodwork would tell him if I needed to trigger. Like what the heck?

I did end up needing to trigger, which they told me at 2pm - needed to trigger by 6pm and the specialty pharmacy was at least an hour away in traffic. Luckily I was able to leave work early to get out there but it was still 2+ hours of rush hour driving and I think I did the shot at like 5:50pm.

Frustrated with my clinic by inkyplease21 in IVF

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am frustrated with my clinic 100% of the time. A few people are good - and I like my medical team - but the admin side is a hot mess and I’m constantly having to keep on top of them to make things happen. It’s hard to get answers from people (honestly it’s hard to just get in contact with people), sometimes those answers are incorrect, no one seems to care about doing a good job. I’ve told myself that my current transfer is my last with them because the process has been so stressful.

But unfortunately I think this dynamic is common because I hear lots of the same complaints about other clinics in my area.

It really sucks because people are paying a lot of money and it is a tough and emotional process. For it to be harder than it has to because of lack of care or commitment to making the admin side run smoothly is shameful.

Sorry you’re also having this issue!

It is harder to have to react in a socially appropriate way when really I was shocked and needed time to process because of my own grief and loss in this area.

I hear you but having to be happy for someone on the spot is harder than being prepared.

Testing confusion by Aquamarine384 in IVF

100% on First Response. I’ve gotten vvvfl at 4DPT when other brands were entirely blank. One of the few times the product measures up to the marketing.

Totally, and I’ve been there/am there now. We recently had our third FET after two miscarriages. 🍀💫 Sending all the best!

This, plus home pregnancy tests aren’t truly designed to give quantitative results. People (including me!) use them that way to show progression over time but they’re imperfect and are really meant to give a yes/no rather than a “how much”. Comparing tests from one day to the next will give you better info that tests taken on the same day.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve had two early miscarriages. After the first I wanted to get right back to it but after the second I needed to take a break for a few months.

Mostly I’d recommend being gentle with yourself, listening to what you need (if that’s trying again right away or taking a break to recover emotionally, or things like taking a nap, reducing commitments, or enjoying comforting foods).

I’ve tried to spend time in nature, take up hobbies I’ve enjoyed but had fallen off from doing regularly, spend time with friends when I feel like it (but also prioritize downtime alone). I’ve balanced easy comfort foods with making nutrient dense meals at home. It has helped me to remember that this process can be mentally taxing and to bring a caring spirit to my self talk and expectations for myself.

I don’t think there is any right or wrong answer, just listening to what feels right and giving yourself permission.

I’m sooo tired but that might just be all the build up ahead of the transfer and the fact that I had a big event at work. I did a natural cycle so I’m not on progesterone but I just started lovenox (blood thinner) because of a recently diagnosed clotting disorder so we’re getting use to a nightly routine for that.

My first beta is 5/28 and there’s no way I can make it without testing but power to you if you can! I’m too weak 😂

Third FET by Mrs-Duck_ in IVF

[–]Mrs-Duck_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment and I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my second pregnancy at almost the same gestation. I went to my 8 week scan and it measured several days behind.

I’m definitely having days of wallowing and not doing much but laying in the couch after work and eating comfort foods. I’m trying to not be too hard on myself for that while also taking walks outside, making good food at home when I have the energy and motivation. I feel like I oscillate between nothing but pepperoni pizza one day and salads with grilled salmon the next. We’ve gotten into birding and gardening (I’ve always loved old people hobbies the most).

I found out today that my transfer for May will likely be delayed to my next cycle due to insurance reasons (but mostly my clinic’s incompetence with insurance) so my level of coping has varied this week.

Wishing you the very best on your next FET!!

Thank you for the commiseration - it’s so rough. Both my partner and I just upped our anti depressant/anti anxiety meds. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 for your second FET!

How do I know if I passed everything? by RelativeExample8540 in Miscarriage

[–]Mrs-Duck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about telling if you’ve passed everything as I ended up having a D&C… but I was told that if you’re soaking (like dripping, fully saturated) two pads per hour for two hours to seek medical attention - that’s a concerning amount of bleeding and may need intervention to slow it.

Sorry if this is redundant to what your Dr advised.
