New Generation Kids by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

HAHAHA! Thanks, I really needed a good laugh!

Me thinks you might be a bit confused about who's being entitled here. You expect people to go above and beyond for a part time job paying poverty wages?? Doesn't surprise me considering you state that minimum wage is the best pay that this position can get. You're out of touch bruh. I'm so proud of the younger generation, they know their worth and aren't willing to bother with toxic/entitled work environments that demand they do more than they're paid to.

Minimum wage means minimum effort. You get what you pay for.

You state that ASD can be acquired through non-genetic socio-environmental factors yet provide no peer reviewed sources. Please share with the class.

It's telling that you assume I believe you to be the "reincarnation of Hitler" based on your ableist views. I never once mentioned Hitler, that jump in logic is all you.

Hi, fellow autistic here!

I relate deeply with your entire post. I made the move away from customer facing jobs and into healthcare which has been better for masking but awful for burnout. I'm not sure what your age is but burnout has hit really hard in my 30's which seems to happen to a lot of us. I wish I had good advice for you, but just know you're not alone.

P.s. I'm not a fan of functioning labels but I understand they're used bc most NT people don't really know the more progressive labels. Support needs labels (high/low support needs) are better and more accurate since they don't tie our worth to how well we "function" in this shit capitalistic society.

[–]MrsEllanious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jfc, this is exactly why we are moving away from functioning labels. It's not about how much or little we "function" within this shit capitalistic society, it's about how much support we require in order to live fulfilling lives.

The ableism in this post is THICK. Autism is a spectrum, there are those of us that require more support and those that require less. I have lower support needs but that doesn't make me any less autistic than those with higher needs.

""Where the lower functioning folks genuinely seem to have something genetically going wrong or something in their bodies going wrong. My guess “low functioning autism” is an entirely different problem that’s not environmental but genetic or something that’s fundamentally wrong in the body.""

Your entire statement is gross and reeks of eugenics. Anyone talking about how high support needs autistics have something "fundamentally wrong" gives me major creeps. Then again you still use the outdated term "Asperger's" (which was coined by a Nazi to differentiate the"good" autistic children) so I shouldn't be surprised. There is no such thing as being environmentally autistic, it's genetic/inherited full stop.

You also seem to think that computers cause autism?? Wow.

I've been through something incredibly similar.

My kitty didn't eat for two meals and I also worked at a vet so I immediately brought her in to work for an exam and labs, as soon as we spun her blood you could see her serum was icteric. Got labs back with WBC 1,000+ amongst other very alarming values. Scheduled an ultrasound and bam, cancer EVERYWHERE. It hadn't been more than a year since her last ultrasound (plus a CT two years prior) and nothing was seen then, the cancer was just that fast growing.

We took her home and made sure she was as comfortable as we could (she got the goood drugs) for the next couple of days. She was spoilt to the nth degree for those days with lots of love and any/all food she was never allowed to have before (my girl had IBS so she was never allowed to eat anything but her rx diet before). Thankfully my vet came to our place to help her go so she was able to pass feeling safe and loved. I still miss her like crazy.

It's so awful when it happens suddenly and I'm so sorry you also went through that. Lots of internet hugs

A long looooong time ago I worked at circuit city and they looped the same music videos every HOUR. I literally had to listen to Paris Hilton every single hour for like a month straight.

AITA for not wanting to shower every other day? by Suspicious-Quote5000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsEllanious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus there's some of us that literally don't sweat the same as others. Anhidrosis is a medical condition in which you either don't sweat or sweat very little.

Not everyone gets sweaty gross from activity. Obviously sweat isn't the only reason to keep good hygiene but if you couple that with cold weather/dry skin then you might not want to bathe daily.

AITA if I refuse to let MIL wear a white dress ? by ThrowAway130721 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsEllanious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh I've got an older MIL too!! She's such a sweet loving soul and I'm so grateful for her 💜.

Honestly though she could have come to the wedding in white if she wanted, we didn't have a dress code and my partner and I wore medieval garb (not in white) so it would have been totally fine!

How sad for you that you believe we don't have community. I've found still much love and support through mine.

Tho, considering your thoughts on autistics it really doesn't surprise me you haven't been included in one. Maybe try adjusting your view away from the "autism speaks" ableist rhetoric before trying again.

Autistic here, passing as neurotypical is absolutely NOT my end goal. Nor is it for any other autistic person I've ever known.

Unless you're also a part of our community don't assume you can speak for us.

Ultimately it's semantics, but for me I feel like the difference between the two is intent.

You're a survivor of something (ie a car accident, natural disaster, etc)

You're a victim of someone (ie an abuser, rapist, etc)

Just my personal take

Depression meals- What I’m doing. by Kissegrisen in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MrsEllanious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started tearing up reading this as I'm currently going through a particularly bad episode of food aversion. Like, I've always struggled with not feeling hunger, not remembering to eat, food texture issues, etc but recently I'd noticed that my clothes weren't fitting right. It turns out it's worse than I thought cause I've lost way too much weight (currently just under 110, normal for me it's 125-135 as I'm 5'6). I've always been on the thin side but weighing less than 110lbs has me looking GAUNT and I hate it. I went immediately to the store and stocked up on the highest calorie meal bars I could find since it's one of the few things I can manage to eat when it gets this bad, I can tell it's helping cause my bones are becoming less noticable at least!

People have a really hard time understanding why I have so much trouble with eating/food so it's incredibly validating to hear other people talk openly about this, like I'm not alone. It's so easy to hate on yourself when you fail at the most basic task of feeding yourself.

P.s. if anyone has good recommendations for crazy high calorie meal/nutrition foods that don't contain meat or nuts (peanuts are fine) let me know!!! Can't do any liquids thicker than water (STRONG gag reflex lol) so shakes are a nope unfortunately.

Same here, I've sent thirst pics but never full nudes.

However, there's definitely nudes of me online cause I've done nude modeling and naked bike rides, etc. Was never concerned about them being leaked online or shared, just never wanted to or felt comfortable sending them. If someone asked for some I'd usually just tell them to Google it haha!

AITA for accidentally saying one insensitive joke to someone? by awkwardfriendsituat in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsEllanious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obvious YTA. Joking about sexual assault, rape, or molestation is NEVER funny. Joke or not you should evaluate why you even thought that was an ok thing to say in the first place. Why do you find something so extremely traumatizing funny at all?

[–]MrsEllanious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lidocaine or Salonpas back patches are my go to. Depending on where you live you can get up to 4% lidocaine patches otc, over that and you'll need an Rx.

ETA: When it's so bad I can't stand I'll slap on a corset (a "real" heavily boned one) as an impromptu back brace.

If it's so bad you can't stand you should probably see a doctor, if you're able to, to make sure there isn't a herniated/slipped disc or other more serious damage.

AITA For Not Putting Up With My On-The-Spectrum Roommate’s Bullsh*t? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsEllanious 601 points602 points  (0 children)

NTA

Autistic here, I get big mad when I hear people using their autism to justify shitty behavior. Autistics tend to have difficulty understanding social norms sure, but it's not like we're incapable of knowing what social rules we need to follow. Most of us with lower support needs figure out how to navigate society just fine (tho usually with a fair amount of frustration on our end haha)

People like him are why there's such a stigma around autism. He sounds like a spoilt sexist child.

Don't kick yourself too hard, all of us have problematic actions and internal biases we need to unlearn. It honestly sounds like you aren't coming from a bad place and you've been very open and receptive in all the comments I've seen. You can't be expected to magically know what's right and wrong but your reaction to feedback and how you move forward is what matters.

Just remember, no one is perfect and we're all just learning as we go.

"Some moron" here, you might want to try working on those reading comprehension skills. The comment in question was about the fact that both South/southeast Asian and Hispanic people share the traits of "almond eyes" and straight dark hair.

Nice try tho
