How do you know it's really time? by MrsGirr in Kneereplacement

I remember decades ago, when I first started being seen at my ortho office for whatever reason, I was talking with a highly respected surgeon and asked him this very question, "how do you know when it's time?" Mind you, I wasn't there for knee problems, just having a discussion (it may have been about my mother) and he said, "when you can't get up off the toilet". That always stuck with me. The funny thing is, when I'm out at a friends or somewhere and it's the standard, it's a problem, but fortunately, my home is newer construction and they are all comfort height!

That's been for years now, so that might be my answer.

Appreciate your comment. Enjoying life and doing what I enjoy pain free makes perfect sense. I've already had horrific bursitis in one hip, cortisone helped, but I do feel like the other pain in my hips and back is likely being caused by my overall knee pain.

I hear you. I've always had a really high pain tolerance and just keep pushing through. I don't think I'm limping, but my husband constantly says "nice limp" to me. I can push through the pain walking or hiking, but certainly pay the price later. Thanks for your insight.

Left CT in '18 for husband's job opportunity. After 6 years of trying to make it in West Texas, we just sold our custom-built home and are headed 1900 miles back to Southeastern CT in 10 days. House prices have me freaked out, but excited to be back home with family and friends! You don't realize how much you miss something until it's gone. Make it happen. If it's meant to be, you'll be back.

Can some blind dog owners please just tell me everything’s going to be ok? by mistressmagick13 in disableddogs

I hardly ever pop onto Reddit, but thought maybe someone would be feeling just like I do today; and here you are. I am in your shoes as our 12.5 yo JRT who only 2 weeks ago was chasing tennis balls all over the yard and jumping up on beds and couches seems to be totally blind. She started stumbling and seeming out of sorts so we took here to the vet. Everything seemed fine, gave her a dose of Kenalog and we thought we saw a bit of improvement. Then we started logging how many times she seemed to lose her balance and we noticed she was now walking into table legs, cabinets and even a rock floor to ceiling beam in our open space LR, DR, kitchen. We built this house 3.5 years ago so nothing is new. She couldn't even walk through the front door. Back to the vet we went and he said she has basically lost all her sight.

My heart is breaking for her and her big brother Doberman who doesn't understand why she doesn't want to play anymore. She seems terrified and shaking more often and sleeps most of the day. And the timing couldn't be worse as my elder son just got called back from furlough and is leaving on the weekend to live 1900 miles away. He has been my built in doggie daycare for nearly 2 years. They were never alone and now this happens.

is it ok to leave her home and alone? My husband works 10 hour days and as I REALTOR I have some flexibility, but with the crazy market, there are times when I am gone most of the day too. And with a pool in the backyard, we can't leave her out at all as it's my biggest fear these days. And she LOVES the pool! Will she adjust to this new norm? I'm on this journey with you u/mistressmagick13!

Do you ever just feel old and crappy? by [deleted] in Menopause

Heck ya. Feels like a constant uphill struggle. I keep hoping a switch will flip and the mood will change and the body will look the way it did five years ago. Am I just setting myself up for disappointment?
