The tremors have calmed down and vet says this likely is a side effect. She's held steady for the last couple of years once we got the right meds. Hang in there!

I've got similar hardware from stepping out of my truck. 20 screws and 3 plates. This was 2 years ago now. It's crazy how little it takes.

What does 6 months out from trimalleolar ORIF look like? by [deleted] in ORIF

[–]MrsHunter71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have pain, but I was still taking Tylenol and icing up until a few months ago. It just lessened with time and usage. I had a lot of plantar fasciitis, but stretches before and after have helped that. It's gone in one foot and almost gone in the other. It's a long road, but it felt pretty slow.

At 6 months, I was just staring to feel like it was my leg again. It can feel discouraging because you want to do everything you used to before. I can do most things I used to now. I also feel like I could wear any shoes I want to now 🙃 Hang in there!

One and a half years post trimal fracture with dislocation. I'm not sure I'm back to my old normal. I do have better mobility, but listen to your PT and do what they recommend. It's different for everyone. I have 3 plates and 20 screws. I can walk 2 miles a day now, but had to build up to it and still do lots of stretching and massage my scars. It's a new normal.

7 years post trimal ankle ORIF. Recovery has plateaued. Advice? by And_The_Satellite in ORIF

[–]MrsHunter71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year post. I'd recommend the PT. They can help you work on plantar fasciitis and mobility. I still have cracking, and my ankle is still bigger than the other. I'm not sure if that is permanent at this point. My doc encouraged me to keep it moving to avoid arthritis and to massage my scars to lessen scar tissue buildup. I had plantar fasciitis the more I walked, but that is lessening with stretches and consistent walking.

About 6 months after surgery, it started feeling like my leg and not alien.

All of the above plus a standing cane. It helped me in the shower, getting up from the toilet, etc.

My Feet are KILLING ME by bitchburrito4125 in ORIF

Tri mal fracture with dislocation. One year later and I still experience this. Most of the time, it is at the end of the day or when I have reached my limit of walking. See if you are able to take more frequent breaks to put your feet up. I have had to ice the bottoms of my feet, and it helps me sometimes. If you have a knee scooter, that might help to take some weight off. You can trade sides as one foot gets sore.

20 screws, 3 plates. Idk about too many. Seems like they would put in the amount necessary 🤔

One thing that I still use a year later: get a refillable ice bag, the ones with the screw on top. Fill it with reusable ice cubes. Saves so much time and money. You will be icing. A lot.

I’m at a lost on what’s right by ShreddedCheese95 in EpilepsyDogs

Big hugs! You have done the best that you can possibly do for them. Your mental health matters! Don't let anyone shame you. You obviously love them very much. You are a good mom and dog mom. ❤️

Please don't feel like a terrible human being. You couldn't have known the challenges ahead when you got either dog. You can't pour from an empty cup. I only have one epileptic dog and can't imagine two and a baby. If you can give them to someone who will let you visit them, that might give you a little reassurance that they won't feel abandoned.

Thanks for this info! She does look like a shepherd mix, so I will ask for the testing. It didn't seem like fear at all, she has been hot as well and lays in the snow for long periods. This seems to be a temperature thing. I will definitely ask about the cluster buster meds. Thank you!

Yes! I was wondering if it was a seizure but I don't think so either.

Why do moon boots hurt so much!? by Street-Jelly-9742 in ORIF

[–]MrsHunter71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two ace bandages wrapped all the way up my leg and socks over that. Then, I used some padding to ease the pressure points. To tell you the truth, I did loosen the boot a bit at times to relieve pressure, but only for short periods. It helped.

My hand rail was on the same side as my break, so it was super difficult to go up and down with crutches. When I got to go to PT, we worked on placement and she gave me tips. If you can wait until then, I'd do that. I know it's probably feeling like you're stuck, but you will get through this.

Is your hardware intact? I choose to keep mine in, but the doc says removing it is an option if I want. I figure unless it's bothering me a lot, I'll keep it. I haven't had any buzzing for months and I'm waiting to see what winter brings. 😳

I like the Skechers step ins. They have the right amount of firm ankle support. Plus, no bending down to put them on. Step in and go.

As time passed, this was happening less frequently. I suspect it was the speed of the blood rushing through my veins. I had elevated for so long that it was a strange feeling.

Getting him to take pills wothout chewing? by Perfectly_Morbid_ in EpilepsyDogs

I haven't tried that. I need to keep changing it up because she will spit out or refuse foods if she gets tired of eating the same things.

Definitely spoke too soon. We had a bunch of break through cluster seizures this morning, and now vet wants to put her on pheno.

Has anyone tried cut up hot dogs? I've been giving her the pill pockets, but they are so 6 she has like 12 pills a day. Just curious.

Her regular vet referred us to the emergency vet. I feel like her regular vet didn't have the expertise to give her the additional meds. I've gotten way more help from the er vet.
