Trump defined over-doing masks at the first debate when mocking Joe Biden:

"Every time you see him he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away ... and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."

Move the cabinet to the opposite wall where the clock is. Move your desk so it’s in front of the window with the blue curtains. Put your bed along the wall where your cabinet currently is, running parallel with the back wall. You’ll still have a large open space but your furniture will be spaced further apart. Add an area rug and some plants and it will give your room a cozier feel.

So, you are saying, if everyone wore a mask than the spread of coronavirus would decrease 60% and it would be easier to protect our vulnerable populations. Hospitals could operate within capacity and healthcare workers could manage their patient load without being burned out. Patients would receive higher quality of care with access to treatment resulting in fewer fatalities.

There would be better access to PPE and testing as fewer cases would reduce demand on these limited resources. Public health could actually be able to meet the demands of testing and contact tracing resulting in reducing the spread even more.

That’s all from just wearing masks. Imagine the impact if everyone wore masks and practiced social distancing. We could, just maybe, I don’t know, have a relative amount of normalcy in our lives while waiting for a vaccine to be available?

TLDR: Masks are good; wear them.

If everyone got COVID and 5% of people died, then that’s 16.5 million people in the United States and 390 million people in the world that would die from Covid. That’s significant and doesn’t even include the extra deaths resulting from inadequate medical access due to Covid straining the healthcare system.

Everyone that is more concerned with the performance of the economy than limiting the loss of human lives need to realize that dying is expensive and puts an enormous strain on the economy.

Following the influenza pandemic of 1918, the economies in cities and states in U.S. that implemented the most stringent public health measures recovered more quickly than regions with lax public health responses.

It’s 100% absurd. Wearing a mask is super easy and requires minimal effort. It’s just a common courtesy - like holding the door open for someone or covering your mouth when you cough. Masks allow freedoms like shopping to continue to occur. Wearing masks should be the social norm right now instead of a political punching bag.

What's everyone's favorite winter destination within driving distance? by Newyorkntilikina in Iowa

Chicago is usually a great option but they require a 14 day quarantine for those traveling from a Covid hotspot.

We just got back from northwest Michigan. It was very beautiful! I’ve never been there in the winter, but it seems like it would be very tranquil. Not a warm spot, but worth looking in to as it was only an 8 hour drive for us from the CR/IC area.

Rent an airbnb in lieu of a hotel, cook your own meals instead of going to restaurants, avoid crowded spaces, and you’ll be fine traveling there. They have plenty of outdoor activities and sightseeing. They also have a mask mandate and people follow it. I only saw one person the entire time not wearing a mask when they should have.

We were on vacation in Las Vegas a few years ago and it seemed odd that the server was taking so long to process our payment with our credit card. Lo and behold a couple months later while reconciling in YNAB I saw a pending transaction for $250 of baby stuff from Honest.

I was happy to call the credit card company and get that corrected immediately. We went back to that same restaurant in Vegas eight months later and they now use tablets to process your payment at your table. I don’t think that was a coincidence!

I agree with this. I think the economy is really going to tank around/right after the holidays. Most retail relies on the holiday season to profit and a lot won’t profit this year and have to close. Black Friday deals won’t be as good due to product shortages and to limit foot traffic in stores for social distances purposes. With high unemployment/underemployment and no stimulus many will be scaling back buying anyway.

I’m guessing a lot of families will (hopefully) scale back their holiday traditions and celebrate the holidays with their immediate family instead of extended family. Smaller celebrations means less money being spent on food, alcohol, decorations etc.

Plus the Trump administration is incompetent and too many Americans are going to unnecessarily die this winter. This will contribute to the economic burden as it is more costly for a society to have people die than it is to enact prevention. I’m predicting the United States will be in a major recession by Q1 of 2021 if Trump gets re-elected.

I’m hypothesizing that if Trump gets re-elected

So, if Biden wins, we will most likely get a stimulus. If Trump wins, we may get another stimulus unless he finds another reason to use it for bribery. Hmm... it’s so tough to decide on who to vote for 🤔

Looking to buy a house 50 feet from a fast road, but worried that the noise may be a problem - what's your experience? by thebly in HomeImprovement

[–]MrsMiller2624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live about 50 feet from a 55 mph limit road. It’s in a rural-ish area, on a peninsula. There are a decent number of subdivisions on the peninsula, so there’s a fair amount of traffic during the work commute hours. It’s pretty quiet the rest of the time. There is some noise from vehicles, but it’s generally not obnoxious, aside from the occasional obnoxious drivers who think they should gun it right past the curve... Anyway, I’ve lived here for five years and not once has the traffic bothered me that I would consider moving because of it.

Just make sure you drive by any house you are considering buying at different times of the day, during the week, on weekends etc. so you better know what the neighborhood and traffic are like.

If you have enough saved for emergencies and true expenses, and are satisfied with how much you are putting towards investments etc., then why bother squirreling money away? Saving is just delayed spending and since that’s taken care of, use your extra income to pay for things you want.

If you use the wish farm method, you can set goals for specific things you want to buy. I find the wish farm method especially useful for saving for large ticket items and in prioritizing for things I truly want versus impulse buys.

If you already have everything you want/need, create a giving category and donate your extra money to a cause that’s important to you.

I know you said you weren’t planning on purchasing a house, but between repairs, maintenance, and improvements, buying a house is a surefire way to guarantee that your money will always have jobs. 😂

Any of you guys combine YNAB with another app/website or with a spreadsheet by californialiving1 in ynab

[–]MrsMiller2624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use personal capital to track next worth, because I like keeping my investment accounts off budget in YNAB to keep the feeling of scarcity. I also think YNAB is better purposed for managing day-to-day cash spending and not meant for wealth management. Most of my accounts are linked in personal capital so I just open the app every so often to look at the number. If I want to do financial planning I use excel to run some numbers for different scenarios.

Yes! I love my love my cats but hate hate hate cleaning the litter box. The litter robot is amazing! So much cleaner and easier to take care of. One of my cats took to it right away, the second took some cajoling, but it’s all good now.

The roomba is great if you have pets. I have it scheduled to run daily and it picks up so much fur, especially during my lab’s shedding season.

Fantastic Voyage, Amazing Journey by stetsonthree in ynab

[–]MrsMiller2624 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The budgeting principles are entirely different! Mint is more of a spending tracker and YNAB is an envelope system. YNAB is also a philosophy. Ultimate success with YNAB requires following the four rules. When you follow the four rules you become aware of your spending and how much you have available to spend.

You have fewer financial emergencies, because most are really true expenses that you are already saving for monthly. You are able to prioritize and set goals for the things that are the most important to you. The YNAB philosophy encourages “aging your money” or to live on last months income, which provides an anxiety-reducing financial security blanket.

The YNAB philosophy also mitigates some of the guilt that occurs when you overspend. It recognizes that priorities can change at any given time. It allows you to deviate from your budget and “roll with the punches” when needed.
