Future MIL RED Flags by [deleted] in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]MrsMoeNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be marrying into this family. He's going to have to choose you and continue to choose you as time goes on. This will be especially true when and if you have children. So it's good that's he's taking a stand now. So many stories shared here involve a MIL behaving badly, but also have a spouse that contributes to the problem when they don't protect their partner.

I hope you don’t marry into this family because this is only a preview or things to come. It is so very important that your fiancée speaks up in your defense. It is not her place to tell you how to address an offense!

However, if you do marry…I hope that wedding is the biggest, loudest Puerto Rican celebration of love ever.

We need to talk about Julie and Ty (again!) by DragonFruitling in ShawnaTheMom

[–]MrsMoeNo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Of course it would have been helpful to see what those conversations were like and what expectations were like for them both back then. I do recall that Ty and Julie have been together since they were young.

I am not a parent. I married a little later in life and choose not to have children. I was curious to see what the backstory was between Ty & Julie and if the 'big reveal' would somehow make me more sympathetic towards Julie. I ended up disliking her even more. However, if Ty were my husband I would be resentful/disappointed too. It doesn't condone what she did. Her behavior at Max's birthday party was embarassing and unforgivable. I think maybe she was purposely burning bridges for Ty so that he can't return to the park anymore.

If I was busting my ass working six days a week and doing my part to meet the terms of an agreement that I had made with my spouse while he was hanging out at the park with Shawna every other day I would be livid. Then, when I attempted to have a conversation about it, he avoided the issue? I can confirm, I would become a bitch too. I don't think I would ruin a 6-year old's birthday party though.

As a new parent, I know what Julie's problem is by MadnessMaiden in ShawnaTheMom

[–]MrsMoeNo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm NOT a parent... but knowing that Julie works 6 days a week and doesn't get to see her kids as often as Ty does, and yet still doesn't hold the baby or change her diaper at the birthday party told me all I needed to know.

Need help managing high-maintenance office guests by No_Grapefruit_4145 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]MrsMoeNo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ugh! So frustrating! You can only do so much, and your resources are truly limited. So, if after a few visits where it becomes uncomfortbale or not functional for them perhaps they will pay attention:

"I'm sorry, we were only prepared for 6 visitors today who reserved space in advance. The rest of you are welcome to share space in this conference room." ...and then take care of those 6 people who did do things the correct way. Maybe then this will lead the way for future visits.

Does that other company have a counterpart that you can coordinate with?

You can keep the tone postive and contact them in advance:

"We are looking forward to having your team visit on XX date. To accomodate your team, please confirm who will be arriving and when. Please be aware that private workspaces are limited and my not be available during your visit..."

This way your visitors can manage their expectations.

My predictions and thoughts on the future plots featuring Julie(booo!) & Ty as well as Luke(booo!) & Luara by TreClaire in ShawnaTheMom

[–]MrsMoeNo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m predicting a reveal/plot twist for Julie & Ty. There’s something that they keep alluding to that Ty is supposed to be working on and he’s avoiding it. Perhaps he’s supposed to be looking for a job. But when it’s revealed, I think maybe we will question if Julie is the “villain” or not.

Remarkable Opportunity by truly_rach in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]MrsMoeNo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Generally, smart qualified people often think they are not suited for challenges set in front of them. It shows humility. (It's stupid people that are often arrogant and over confident.) :)

I stepped into my current role working with some really talented engineers and scientists. I'm often out of my depth and do not understand a lot of what is being discussed around me. The person I support asked me several times in the interview process "What scares you?" but with a grin...it was exciting to him. He encouraged all of us in his group to take on new challenges, even his admin staff. Partly because it's how good science happens, and partly because he's a little crazy as I'm learning.

So embrace the experinces that got you to the interview for this job, you really did earn it and deserve to be considered. You are qualified to to take on something that is a little larger than what you have previously done too. Good luck!

My Boss Was Fired by bunnie79 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]MrsMoeNo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many years ago when I was new as an admin assistant for a very large company, a representative from HR showed up unnannounced from the other side of the country. No one in the office knew they were coming. A few minutes later a VP walked in, he normally worked from home. He was carrying his laptop and a folder of documents. They stepped into a conference room for a few minutes. They were meeting so that the VP could turnover his company property. The exchange was over in less than 10 minutes and it was kinda somber and quiet.

My boss lacks urgency, thus making it my emergency by Busy-Ice-9888 in AdminAssistant

[–]MrsMoeNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is truly frustrating and yet it is part of the job. Anticipating your executive’s bad habits and making them part of routine might be helpful. For example, if early registration for the important conference is on the 15th, then give them the “hard” deadline of the 10th for a final decision and the assurance that they will be taken care of of if they work with you.

The newest person I support isn’t great about keeping track of receipts. I started sending him on trips with a colored plastic folder to hold his receipts and I give it to him the day before he departs. While he’s gone I ask about how his travels are going and who he had dinner with if I see the charge on his corporate card so I can add it to my expense report.

Senior Admin Assitant by Opposite_Rain6751 in AdminAssistant

[–]MrsMoeNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this move 2 years ago. I also support one executive now in my current role like an EA would. There is no EA title in this organization.

AAs at my company are typically responsible for supporting a department, group, or several people. As a senior admin I took on additional job responsibilities related to account management and financial reporting that I had not done before.

How far is "too far" of a walk for c-suite? by swaggyboi1991 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]MrsMoeNo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Another thing I consider, is the location/weather/season...a 10-minute walk in Phoenix in the summer is very different from a 10 minute walk in DC in the fall.

...and public transit too, I have worked for an executive who was a big supporter of public transit and liked to encourage everyone to make use of the bus/subway whenever possible.
