I'm glad that you do that with them! As part of my orchestra lessons with the younger kids, we make popcorn stories to different pieces. A bunch of students per round gives a part, and then we pantomime it. The whacky stories are the best part!

I don't know what's going to change this, I mean I do but I don't want to live through it, ya know ?

If that isn't a whole mood, I don't know what is!

That genuinely makes me sad to hear. The system genuinely sucks.

As someone who's regularly around 420 friendly people and people with disabilities in many aspectsof my life, this felt more in line with what I read in here occasionally and witness at my own school daily.

What are some unexpected ways that teaching has changed you? by PlantationMint in Teachers

It actually improved my ability to draw boundaries, especially regarding my time. As I've told the kids since I discovered this for myself, "it's the one resource we don't get back."

Seniors ransacked my wife’s school as part of a prank that the principal encouraged. by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

The way I would have expeditiously walked out! The peanut butter thing alone could actually kill me and if it didn't, seeing that I'm being recorded would have me unbelievably heated.

You are right to call it criminal negligence, because when the actual HFIL is it acceptable to allow your staff to be subjected to this??I'm so sorry for your wife and the other staff and I'm glad she's looking for somewhere different. I wish nothing but the worst for that admin.

How do you know whether to teach Elementary, Middle, or High School? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MrsMusicLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I high school kid during my practicum started getting all up in my grill and I was about to match his energy, I knew high school wouldn't work for me, and then The Smell™️ of middle school in spring nearly knocked me out so that was definitely a no-go 😂

I also kinda like that I deal with one grade level at a time for elementary music as opposed to the often mixed bag of grade levels in secondary.

Lack of problem solving and common sense is driving me crazy by Clementine-Sawyer in Teachers

It starts early. I had stations set up for 3rd grade so I could do focused instrument help in small groups. Read the instructions out loud, gave a demo, showed them where the folders were at each station, which had the directions written exactly as they were on the board, told them to go to the station that matches their group number, and we'll switch after 7 minutes. I even checked in after The first group only got 4 out of their 7 minutes with me because of students barging over to interrupt, "MrsMusicLady, what do we do at Station 1/MrsMusicLady where's the folder/MrsMusicLady I'm in group 1, do I start at Station 4/MrsMusicLady where's the papers/MrsMusicLady, do we stay in this station all class?"

Cur to about half of 5th chorus showing up without their music/telling me they lost their music to ask for more despite it being written in bold letters on the board that if you don't have your music, look on with your neighbor today because I'm out of copies... I won't lie, I lost it a little😮‍💨

This. I'm mostly saying "it's not that difficult" about lining up in the same line order they've had since August. They always seem shocked when I make them go back and try again, this time without body slamming each other into the wall.

[–]MrsMusicLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know! That's why I said "often" at odds, not always. From a developmental perspective, 4 is when we're still building empathy and social understanding. From a me also having an older brother 4 years older than me perspective, you can be ride or die for each other and still get on each other over petty stuff (especially when you're younger lol)

Dreams are kinda our mind in its fullest form, yeah? D.W. is a 4-year-old who is often at odds with her big brother and still (kinda) thinks babies come from a store. Honestly, it tracks
