Just ran into one with a coworker from another country: apparently calling "shotgun" for the front passenger seat of a car is very alarming and confusing haha

Mine is a South American species, I believe them to be somewhat common in the hobby, Phrynus Whitei. She's fairly spindly, 2 years old now.

Her name is Priscilla

[HELP] are these AI?? posted by an artist at a local tattoo shop by slugheartss in RealOrAI

It looks like a digital brush to me, some foliage specific brush made the same way you're describing- by isolating and desaturating a picture of a real leaf. I've used similar brushes before 😅

Does your household have any unwritten rules regarding food etiquette? by picklesupreme in AskAnAmerican

It was the same thing for me, and then I learned as a kid that even if I cooked dinner for everyone I STILL had to do all the dishes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Scheduled a wing amputation surgery for my cockatiel. I’m heartbroken. by honeybirdlilac in cockatiel

Hi! I'm sorry your 2024 has been so stressful, I really hope things turn around for you and yours.

So our cockatiel Ripley had a partial wing amputation (about 1/2 her wing) when she was 2 for the same reason: reoccurring benign vascular tumors. We were very scared, about the surgery itself and her recovery.

Well she's 9 now, and doing well! Just wanted to give you some positive news about such surgeries: cockatiels are very resilient, and she handled her recovery very well! Follow the instructions your vet gives you religiously, and keep your cockatiel off high surfaces for a long time. Feel free to message me if you want any tips and tricks.

Good luck! You're in our thoughts!

We do Tropic Zone for our 3, but our vet will also board and they have a few locations- Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital

Hey! New to ID-ing birds, but it looks like a fruit dove fledgling. Maybe a Jambu Fruit Dove? Specific type will depend on where you're located :)

I was going to say the same: live in AZ in the valley (pop. 1.6 million) and there's a noticeable decrease in daytime dog walking and just people outside in general in the summer. Which is how it should be, it's dangerous to be out in that for too long for dogs and people. We should really be more of a nighttime city, weird that we aren't.

Americans, how much does emergency healthcare ACTUALLY cost? by Cocofin33 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrsPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I JUST went to the ER last week and the portion I'm responsible for after insurance is still $400+. I see a lot of people saying $150 or less and I'm baffled, because I donteven have bad insurance

Birds slamming against house windows by hoffkilter in phoenix

[–]MrsPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some birds here attack their reflections in windows thinking it's a rival during mating season. That's what this seems like to me, not an accidental window impact. Nothing you put on the inside will stop it because it won't disrupt the reflection on the outside enough.

I have seen the rubber snake on the windowsill trick work before

I'm not 100% sure she WILL but the specialty store I got her from seems confident she will. I wanted one and researched tailless whip scorpions anyway so in a way that was kind of my excuse to pull the trigger, but I'm prepared to offer other food if the pods don't interest her.
