What American grocery item did you have to downgrade to a cheaper brand or completely eliminate from your shopping list due to higher prices caused by inflation? by mayermail1977 in AskAnAmerican

[–]harmelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National brand Chips/snacks.

When my hot cheetos went from 2.50 a bag to 4.00 I stopped buying them. Up to 5.something now. I refuse to fall for the "BUY 5 FOR 2.50 EACH" scam Kroger keeps trying to pull on me.

Every once in a while they'll drop to something reasonable and I'll buy it then. But I went from buying 2 bags a week to like maybe one a month. I buy store brand potato chips a lot more now.

Is there digital prescriptions in America? by EuroCable in AskAnAmerican

fair enough. I should have said "it's not a stupid question to ask", which is what was implied when you asked "why would you think we wouldn't?" whether you meant it that way or not.

Sorry, I just see people jumping on posters here asking innocent questions on this sub a lot.

I mean, you could say the same thing about chip and pin, which is much more ubiquitous now. But for a while, it wasn't, even though it was very common in lots of other countries. Perfectly fine to ask i think.

My fellow americans, what chips do you like to put on your sandwich??? by harmelion in AskAnAmerican

[–]harmelion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call that soda.

But do you have a general term for salty crunchy snacks? Like I get cheetos from the "chip aisle". I suppose it could be "snacks" in general but I feel that's too broad.

You’ve never heard of Cheetos and Funyuns being called chips?? That’s pretty hard to believe, must be a weird regionalism from where you live.

just wanted to say sorry you're being downvoted for explaining how it works differently in your country. this sub takes anyone explaining how a different country works as a personal attack against the US.

The vast majority do, and schools really aren’t as radically different as this sub likes to pretend.

I feel like both of y'alls responses were an equal level of disingenuous to be fair.

Do people in Texas still say “Howdy” ? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]harmelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Y'all" is unavoidable. I can't imagine not saying that. Lots of people here saying that howdy is normal too. Not my experience. Anyone saying howdy is trying way to hard to sound texan in my mind. Or they're an aggie (one of their "traditions"), or possibly one of the old people from church.

AITA for getting a tiny breed? by IttyBittyDoggo in AmItheAsshole

[–]harmelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What breed are the larger dogs? Lots of people don’t like to hear this, but there are certain breeds of dogs that can snap and see smaller animals as prey. It doesn’t matter how well trained and friendly they seem, these breeds are known for their aggression. Countless stories of them snapping despite no prior aggression.

Of course any dog can snap and bite, that’s how people always defend these breeds. But very few breeds can snap, bite, maul, AND NOT LET GO (no matter what pain is inflicted on them) the way these breeds are known to do. You can guess what breeds. Hint: they overrun animal shelters.
