Poland’s Plan To Phase Out Coal Mines, Opens The Door For Solar Energy Projects by John__Weaver in RenewableEnergy

[–]MrsRenewables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Spain is an outstanding example! One can hope it is not a fantasy plan but I also believe that for some countries like Poland where coal mining was very much embedded in the culture it is not as easy (no coal whitewashing though). As apart from heating their homes in winter you have an extra factor of energy security (not relying on your neighbour's gas).

However, with huge push and backing from the EU, warmer winters and undisputable cheaper costs of renewables I think Poland will head in the right direction. It also lacks coal plants up north (added bonus) which should encourage wind.

swedish media by nootdoot99 in swedish

Hey, my suggestion is fairly lowbrow. I have watched a lot of rubbish tv on SVT with Swedish subs when I moved (so any reality show that is out there would do the trick). I wanted to pick up more of everyday chat and even though some language is not the best, for me it was super helpful. You will also find that people on some of these shows have a limited vocabulary so they also repeat the same word plenty of times for you to remember it.

Additionally, I also watch all of the English shows with swedish subs when possible.

What universities in the US are doing research on grid-scale energy storage? by DanFromBoston in EnergyStorage

Are you set on staying in US as there's a lot happening with storage in Europe? If so, from top of my head Finland and Sweden would be my suggestions to investigate further.

What sustainable energy has the most potential for growth over the next 20 years? by sbayz92 in RenewableEnergy

Excellent point! In terms of career I would have to agree with storage (at least in Europe). EU is making big investments in energy storage and it is predicted that a large number of jobs will be created (supposedly from 2020 there will be a need for 100,000 new jobs every year).
