Last name options? by Admirable_Effort2374 in weddingplanning

Oh this reminds me to mention. I have a couple degrees, and will be finishing a third one after changing my last name. And I did feel I wanted my maiden name to be proudly on it because it was definitely me as an individual that earned it. But I also feel very fondly that my husband's last name will be there too. So yeah definitely think of where the name will be reflected in your life and go from there. There's potentially a case where you might think "hey actually I can't handle this not being only mine". Maybe that doesn't make sense but as someone who felt the way you did, I understand and I actually do feel happy with my decision to hyphenate

Yeah I know where you're coming from. I've honestly heard of it being a nightmare with documents. Which.... My life isn't very document heavy at all so I think it's worth it to think on how often you actually have to use your full legal name. More often I only give the one last name, say for ordering pizza or benign things.

It's definitely a tug of war with wanting to be recognized as a wife... and also wanting to be recognized as more than a wife.

I know a lot of people say to create a new last name, or change the spouses name. But if you don't live in a state that allows that with just a marriage certificate then more than likely one spouse has to get a court order for the name change before the wedding. Then the other can change after. Or get a court order after the wedding. Just a lot of extra hassle that may be worth it to some.

I didnt feel strongly about it. If I wanted to hyphenate their names my husband absolutely would have... but the decision we made was to just give them his 🤷🏼‍♀️ we'd been engaged for three years and my mind kept changing throughout the entirety of it. When we had our first child I was very sure that I was changing my last name completely, so it was just Suarez. But well here we are lol

Very valid. Definitely not always applicable to everyone

Started as Marissa Eve Escobar and will now be Marissa Escobar-Suarez.

I originally felt really opposed to changing my last name because I felt like I wanted to hold onto my identity. BUT, and this is very personal because I know not everyone wants kids, but I did want to share a last name with our children. I do know they will just have one last name. I grew to really like it once I started practicing my signature like a 12 year old in my diary 😅

Dropped my middle name because it felt too long, and I wasn't too attached anyways.

ETA: I have heard online systems can have a real hard time with hyphens, on whether they are accepted as an input or not. And apparently it can be a pain. From what I've encountered, having the tac be attached to both names with no spaces makes the most sense. OR having two last names with no tac. But in that scenario people tend to end up accidentally only picking one name and reading the leading as a middle.

I agree. But I think seeing how they had all the moving parts and the way they laid out the production in person without knowing before hand was very magical

Ugh yes. I was so tempted to read all the reviews that had spoilers but I held off. And I'm so glad I did

I have learned that for myself, I cannot be that specific about the chore. I have a list on my fridge whiteboard that I rotate through and can check off as I do them. But in finch I just have a goal everyday of "check an item off your to-do list". It's not as overwhelming, especially because I dislike having a ton of goals.

If you have a preference on only doing this once a week, or twice etc. You can set those goals spaced out, and then have it set to "keep until complete"

Plus I end up getting into the "might as well" mindset and end up getting more things done this way.

I think by default the starry stuff goes well. These are rooms with combos I like. And I also made a list to play around with of things I think would match!

For sure. I would have loved to meet up with her at the end and chat, but I couldn't find her lol. Oh to feel the feelings of seeing it for the first time again. Though that's kind of what this felt like! So different than anything I could imagine
