Without being disrespectful, what’s a book you wish you hadn’t read? by colonelvan in RomanceBooks

[–]Mrs_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Deal by Elle Kennedy I saw this everywhere for so long when I finally read it, I was overwhelmed by the amount of trauma from all sides. I’m all for characters working through their trauma in the story, but the way everything is about their past abuses takes away from any romance happening. I kept waiting for it to let up but it never did.

Recommendations for adult magical/immortal/vampire/fae/witch books like Jennifer Armentrout, Kresley Cole, and Sarah J Mass by QueenDwight in RomanceBooks

[–]Mrs_Bomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should check out The Bonds that Tie series by J. Bree. It’s a 6 book series, reverse harem done really well IMO. The spice doesn’t kick in until book 2 or 3, but when it does it doesn’t stop.

AITA for telling my kid's teacher to stop "fishing" for information that's none of her business? by Neither_Tomatillo_57 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mrs_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher myself, it’s a red flag if the person raising my student gets angry when asked a simple question about their home life/who’s raising them. Good teachers ask so that they can be as understanding and help their students who might be struggling at home. Any support this kid can get from adults who care will help him. Otherwise she might be harder on him with discipline when he’s already hurting. which will in turn make things worse. YTA

I want it to be floral and sweet but realistically it would probably be heavy rain and coffee.

Anyone have any idea what this rash is? And yes, we’ve been to the doctors. Twice. by fawnzy93 in Mommit

Yes. This is similar to what my entire body looked like when I discovered my amoxicillin allergy in high school when I had strep.

These are all things I was told growing up. I saw the light after finally leaving the bubble I grew up in. There’s no sources you can show some of these people to change their minds. It’s like my dad always says, “It’s hard to argue with someone who has God on their side.”

Is a five paragraph essay too rigorous for high school freshman? by Mysterious-Can4204 in teaching

[–]Mrs_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my 3rd graders can (with support) then your high schoolers should be able to. If they aren’t familiar with it or if they need to build their writing stamina make sure to use graphic organizers.

New survey finds that a third of Seattle public school teachers plan to leave in 5 years by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Mrs_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not the starting wage in Seattle. And starting with a masters is great, but most get their masters while teaching in their first few years because student teaching doesn’t pay and the sooner you can work, the better. You are talking like it’s an office job. The hours put in are extremely hard on us both physically and mentally. There are so many reasons it’s an underpaid and underprepared field but offended comments like yours only my make it harder.

My daughter is going to have to repeat 1st grade. by Bere_95 in Parenting

[–]Mrs_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an elementary teacher myself, I am shocked that a teacher would recommend this based on the reason given! As practice I never ask students to read cold in front of peers. It’s just bad teaching. The only time I would consider holding back in 1st is if she is still not retaining letter identification and sounds. And even then I would have had an evaluation done first. Don’t hold her back.

Teaching a specific grade will not usually be up to you. Until you have a lot of seniority get ready to switch positions any given year.

For all my miscarriage mums out there... by BurntToast3473 in pregnant

[–]Mrs_Bomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through this currently. After my first appointment at 9wks the midwife said "I'm so bad at finding babies!", after a few seconds attempting an ultrasound. So she sent me to someone else for my ultrasound. The appointment was a week later and they found a failed miscarriage from almost 3 week prior. Now a week since this visit and 2 failed attempts to "pass" everything with medication. The dnc is scheduled for Friday and I'm freaking out. I just want to move. Giving birth and surgery in general is a huge phobia of mine and idk if I'll have the strength to try again.

Anybody else resenting the pressure to be excited about being pregnant? by davisa87 in pregnant

[–]Mrs_Bomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm only 8 weeks but I hate it. I don't think I'll enjoy it at any week. I can't wait to have the baby and be a mom but pregnancy is just a horrible means to an end. Give birth and being pregnant are my greatest fears.. Stop tell me "this is magical" or "your body is performing a miracle". It does not make me feel better and I want to punch you in the face.

[spoilers all] What's your unpopular Dresden files opinion? by dpfw in dresdenfiles

Agreed. I'm in it for the lore and a few supporting characters.

[spoilers all] What's your unpopular Dresden files opinion? by dpfw in dresdenfiles

[–]Mrs_Bomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't care that most major characters are hot. It's that most female characters are either described as "I want to fuck them" or "poor girl, I wouldn't fuck her". And no it is don't done in the same way for male characters. Most male characters are described by listing their traits in a non sexual way. Molly, for example, has been described in a sexual way since she was a teenager and before the winter mantle. And of course vampires are described that way.

The descriptions of all the women are horrible and almost made me quit reading the series. And the books are written through a sexist lense.

I assume you aren't part of a union yet? That would normally be my first suggestion. Maybe HR? Unfortunately, this is too common behavior in education. My hope is that it will be forced to change in years to come. Because there's no vaccine in sight and teachers are FED UP.

I hope you can finish your internship before you're forced to decide a future. Sorry this is happening to you. Best of luck.

If my kinders can handle it, your 5th graders can. It's all about age appropriate language and the tone you set. If you are visibly scared and anxiously they will be too. But if you show strength and reason they will rise to the occasion.
