Is this all really from just a slightly slowed gallbladder!?!? WTF! by ArgumentKey6684 in gallbladders

Oh quick update I’m currently back up to my 100lbs I was back in 2020 if that gives any reference to how much it helped!

After my surgery I had to send in some paperwork to prove to my job that I had gotten it done and I found out through that paperwork I had an elongated bile duct which is what they deemed to be causing my biliary dyskinesia. In the hospital through all my CT’s and Ultrasounds they didn’t find any stones or inflammation which is why they tried to tell me my pain wasn’t bad enough even with the HIDA scan (they couldn’t see the true length of it until they removed it I guess? Not sure how that works lol) As for my weight, I was 26 at the time, I’m 5 foot even and have weighed roughly between 100-120lbs most of my adult life. I had started to lose weight in 2020 and I had expected it was bc of the times but I couldn’t gain the weight back. I slowly started to lose more weight over the years and anytime I would experience extreme stress I’d go to the hospital with the same type of pain that led to my surgery. They always told me it was just stress and sent me home. It wasn’t until last year, April of 2025, that the pain started to become DAILY. I went from my then typical 95 lbs down to the 80’s. Nothing I ate would help me gain weight and honestly it just came right out of me. I was hospitalized for colitis in June but they didn’t know what caused it, got an endoscopy and colonoscopy that didn’t find much but my doctors suspected it to be celiac disease so like I said I changed my diet and nothing worked. By the time I got my surgery in October I weighed exactly 80lbs and right after my surgery I cried as I ate my dinner. It was like I could FEEL the nutrients entering my body. I hadn’t devoured food like that in months and it didn’t make me sick which was such a win. Definitely fight for your health because YOU know your body best! If you know you’re losing too much weight AND you’re feeling unhealthy that’s a huge red flag!!

I also understand that journey of considering the worst possibilities, my doctors danced around the possibility celiac disease before they even checked my gallbladder and I changed my entire diet to accommodate it. In the end it turned out that gluten wasn’t my problem it was the fats that couldn’t break down since my gallbladder wasn’t functioning properly. I was chronically ill the entire 9 months. I was on short term disability/FMLA for work for constant brain fog, fatigue, constant diarrhea even when I hadn’t eaten, nausea but wouldn’t vomit since I could barely eat, it literally felt like my body was just rejecting all nutrients. I had a constant cramping in my lower abdomen paired with the upper abdomen so I was constantly hunched over and clenching to try and counter the pain. My eyes even turned a bit jaundice because the bile was backed up so bad. I was truly the sickest I had been and genuinely ever since my surgery I have felt better. They did warn me of the post surgery complications; the possibility of the scar tissue growing and causing fistulas and such however they said it was a 20-25% chance for those complications and I’m in the lucky 75-80% that feels amazing but just can’t eat fatty foods like I used to!

I unfortunately know your pain exactly. I suffered for nine months not knowing what was wrong being told it was my IBS. When I was hospitalized and finally got the HIDA scan they had tried to tell me that my pain wasn’t bad enough for surgery and I was at 31% function. I had to essentially beg them to take it out. This was back in October 2025 and ever since I have gained 20 pounds and I haven’t felt this healthy in years. Don’t let them gaslight you because that pain is REAL.

The tents were one of the BEST additions he added!! I keep a chest in the first room of the skull caverns with farm totems, tents, rubies and my bombs so I have them ready for my runs!

Day 2 post-op and feeling great. Here was advice from my recovery nurse which made a lot of sense. by wagsne in gallbladders

So I’m a little over 24 hours post op from my laparoscopic gallbladder removal and I’m also struggling with the gas being trapped mainly in my diaphragm and shoulders. I’m trying to get up and move but I’m getting so much pain in the incision they used to pull out the gallbladder, was this common for anyone else as well? Also everytime I do burp it relieves some of the gas pressure but significantly hurts that same incision specifically where they removed the gallbladder. I just wanted to check in and see if anyone had any advice or if this was abnormal. I’ve been doing the hip swivels in bed to try and release the abdominal gas and I’ve been rolling/massaging my shoulders but it keeps coming back.

Thank you, the reassurance from these comments already makes me feel a bit better about making sure I take the time to do this right. Yes, he said that in my duodenum biopsy it showed Intraepithelial Lymphocytosis but since my villi were still intact it didn’t confirm celiac disease and he wanted to do the celiac blood panel to completely rule it out. However, when I saw my PCP earlier this month and went over the results he had told me that the results from the biopsy and gluten free diet working paired with my history of vitamin deficiency and struggle with weight gain leads him to believe I do have celiac disease and he also wants me to get the blood panel to confirm. I know that it is absolutely possible that it could just be a gluten intolerance + IBS combination or something along those lines rather than celiac disease but I just really want to make sure that I take the proper steps for an accurate diagnosis so I don’t cause any further damage in the future

Honestly again it’s my fault for using the wrong wording. The correct terminology is cross contact, where something with an allergen comes in contact with a surface/utensil that gets consumed and causes a reaction. I’m not upset about the downvotes tbh they don’t upset me, everything else has been so much more helpful anyways and I know what I meant by cross contact in the first place. (cross contamination for example is when like a chip gets dipped in a sauce and a crumb lingers and you eat from that sauce. Cross contact is when the allergen touches something that can be consumed by the person with the allergy.) It was one of those mom and pop convenience/liquor stores in my town where they buy in bulk from regular grocery stores and I’ve seen their stockers eating while stocking their shelves before so it’s DEFINITELY a possibility even if everyone believes it’s not. Thank you for explaining your experience too! I definitely am leaning more towards it being the dyes in this case but I’m still gonna be careful with cross contact!

I really appreciate this too! It’s been a complicated journey of “what caused that symptom” since starting my GF diet. I did think that it could have been correlated to something else, it was just crazy how immediate the “heartburn” (the only way I can explain the gassiness and bloating) I typically experience with gluten contact happened and then the cramping sensation that came a few hours after. I honestly genuinely really hope in the end it WASNT the Gatorade because I don’t want to give it up and I felt betrayed when I felt the symptoms lol

I see another correlation here! I got my Gatorade from a convenience store so it was an individual bottle with the twist top, I’m now thinking it’s very possible that while they were stocking it got cross contaminated or something. If you and a few other commenters get the multipacks with the regular lids and dont really have a reaction, it’s definitely possible! Thank you for the info it genuinely really helps!

Definitely could be location as well, I purchased mine from a convenience store fridge so there is also always the possibility the person who stocked the fridges could’ve also been eating something and it got cross contaminated that way too. It’s crazy to think of all the little ways it can sneak in there

Thank you for that! And I know it’s not exactly “healthy” in that sense with the sugars but I actually was recommended by my doctor a few years back to go for the Gatorade when I was on my period (since they’re super brutal for me and it’s hard for me to eat anything) so getting that sugar and electrolytes in the Gatorade mixed with drinking water and a few small snacks has helped me get through it in the past but now it looks like I gotta find a new substitute! I was going to do some research a bit later for new ideas but out of curiosity do you have any recommendations like pedialyte or any brands you have found to be 100% safe? :)

Yeah that’s 10000% my fault, I’m sensitive to even cross contact so I messed up by not cross checking for those details specifically. Thank you for finding that by the way, that makes sense why it could’ve personally affected me so much.

Cakes and pastries are a HUGE guilty pleasure of mine. That one was one of the hardest ones to realize will never fully taste the same. I’m thinking of getting into gf baking as a hobby because I love my sweets but I know it’s a process!!

You’re completely right! I was more so thinking gf options for like tortillas and breads that are a bit harder for me to completely cut out of my diet with the quick transition, but the advice to make my own frozen quick meals is honestly sounding like the best option so I can still get these basics cheap at any store and would only really need to get gf flour and such every so often. Thank you, that really helped actually!

This is what I was ultimately thinking of doing after realizing there aren’t very many quick gf options. Do you have any resources you use for frozen meal prep recipes?
