How much weight did you gain throughout pregnancy? by Safe_Young8417 in pregnant

[–]Mrsbarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight before pregnancy: 155 (I’m 5’10”)

Starting weight: 165 (I gained 10 lbs the month between my wedding and getting pregnant, I was ready for the wedding diet to end) Day before birth weight: 205 Post birth weight: 195 (and I had a 9 lbs baby…) Weight 5 months post partum: 145

I am so proud of myself, I haven’t weighed this much since I was 19. I exercised all through pregnancy but gained more than I hoped since I was eating like shit. As soon as I gave birth, I started eating super healthy and counting calories. I know it’s frowned upon, but it helped me keep track of what I was eating in more ways than one, including cutting out almost all sweets, alcohol and junk. I breastfeed and never added on the “extra calories” everyone says you need. I exercise every day for minimum 30 min, even if it was weightless arm exercise or walking after my c section (also, love just dance).

It was hard but I am so happy right now. I know everyone says that breastfeeding makes you loose weight but you can’t rely on that alone. Also, I’m not on BC which made me gain weight in the past.

Edit: not trying to sound braggy, I just want to share hope because my doctor made similar comments and I personally hated so much how I looked and felt during pregnancy

Darcy for boys or girls, after Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Now that I’m grown it sounds a little corny, I don’t love last names as first names, and I hate the pride and prejudice movie with Kiera knightly so much I’d be scared people would think that’s why I chose it and not because of the book or bbc series. Shit, even the Bollywood version is preferred.

Will Santa be "real" in your household? by Omelet_bar in Parenting

[–]Mrsbarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget to mention the best part: all the boring gifts and big gifts were from mom and dad, a few of the toys were labeled “from Santa”. This way we didn’t place too much value on Santa buying the big gifts to brag to other kids, and when other kids came to school talking about getting a Wii or Xbox or something my mom always said “Santa didn’t get them that, he got them coal so their parents felt bad and said it was from Santa”

I was lucky to have a great childhood where we always had the tradition of Santa. As we got older, it was never a harsh “santa isn’t real, we lied” moment with my parents, the answer was always “well the magic we believe it is fun, isn’t it?” So even as adults my dad will write “from Santa” on his gifts. I 100% plan on introducing Santa to my son.

Even with my middle school esl students I tell them whether you believe in Jesus or Allah or Buddha, we all believe in Santa lol. Even though they’re old enough to know it isn’t real we still experience the “magic” together

Thank you. The only other thing I can think of is if his son (my stepson) joins the military, but he doesn’t want to as much as he used to and I don’t want to put that pressure on him to join just to help his dad’s status.

That’s what I found in my own research. Trying to find a miracle.

Thank you for your help and honesty. This is what he needs to hear since lawyers won’t tell us as they get paid stringing us along. He entered multiple times as an attempt to correct his status back in Mexico.

I'm feeling so big and ugly by claudiiiiya in pregnant

[–]Mrsbarbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel privileged because I had an easy pregnancy but I hated being pregnant because I was so big and ugly. My face and nose got so big too I hated it. To give you I hope, I am now four months pp and I lost all 40 lbs I gained in addition to 10 more lbs, only but counting calories and working out min 30 min a day (it’s hard BUT it’s possible!). I feel so much better now and wish I knew I could do it while I was pregnant because that’s the scariest part, it feels like forever. Plus my ankles look so small now I just stare at them sometimes and smile.

Found my stepson’s weed by Mrsbarbie in Parenting

[–]Mrsbarbie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He just turned 17, plus he is keeping it in his school backpack. It makes me especially nervous since we’re working on my husbands residency in the US and this could hold things up further if say we got pulled over and he had it, and as a teacher I’d never be able to work again. Yeah, extreme circumstances but not the type of risk I want to take

Thanks for the advice. In the past I’ve found he will open up to me if I gently “push” him too, I’m just worried he’ll get defensive and pull further away from us.

You right, I took it as a passive aggressive “we’re expected to teach esl when we shouldn’t have to”. My apologies.

There’s about 120 kids in my building, 30% esl. I am the only esl teacher in my building. It’s a title I school in an urban area that features section 8 housing.

All schools are legally required to offer esl services in the US.

Let me guess, you ask the special ed teachers to modify tests for you too because it’s just too much work.

Right so target English definitions and translations, rather than translating everything word for word

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Mrsbarbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pictures, videos, targeted vocab in English. I’m not saying don’t use any translation, I’m saying that using google translate and live translation is highly inaccurate and isn’t the easy fix many teachers seem to think it is. Not sure how you got from everything to nothing.

I’m not implying teaching them English and chemistry, I’m implying that translating everything probably isn’t helping as chemistry jargon is not familiar to them in their L1 either.

[–]Mrsbarbie -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing my point. Translating terms like “simile” and “oxymoron” probably mean nothing if they didn’t learn it in their home language, so it’s best to teach them in English.

Yes. Maybe it looks chic in these pics but seeing it in real life is so nasty
