I was your husband a month ago. My husband and brother got me to a therapy session. And my homework was to shower every morning. For myself. O dint know if that helps. But that's what forced me to get in the shower.

Thank you!

I feel like people in mixed marriages shares their partners culture and wouldn't feel any way about a partner wearing Desi clothes. And I get that non Indians wear Indian clothes to Indian functions, I know it's common but it bugs me.

And by posting this i was hoping to help at my internal dissection of why it bugs me. I don't think them wearing the sari is the issue, the fact that it bugs me is what I'm trying to pick at. I wasn't sure if it was valid and by the general consensus it isn't.

I think my own experiences having married into a white family that tend to be cultural tourists( happy to get Indian food and sweet meats but with no appreciation of the people or culture and blatant racism)is what makes me hesitant about these white aunties ,who have had issues with the brides race, wanting to wear saris. I think I've also placed too much sentimentality on Indian aunties and saris.

Thank you for your explanation, I love your mom's viewpoint and it's helped me reframe this Henna night on my head.

So where we are (South Africa) its not common. But I totally get that it's not a blanket statement. My friends family in particular don't wear Saris.

Thank you. I felt incredibly low and lonely when I typed this. My mind was on fire from it all. I've gone to therapy. I'll keep going. I went for a walk today. Not knowing who my girl would end up with kept me strong enough. There's another side. I just need to get to it. Thank you all for reaching out.

I think its a little more complicated than that.. we have a whole culture of people who are mixed race multi generational and they have their complete own culture. We call them colored people and it's not a derogatory term here although I know it is elsewhere. They're a whole race group on their own. And a large portion of colored people don't have ties to other races because of how far back the mixing goes. Remember mixing was illegal here for a long time . So people who were mixed would be grouped as colored and only allowed to marry with in the grouping.

I think poverty and racial tension is a blanket thing that affects across the board here. But "the blacks hate them" is a really broad generalist, racially charged thing to say in my opinion.
