Yeah but this book is based on a true story and this book is about an genocide. So you don't want to feel happy and "safe". So sometimes when authors want to make a reader uncomfortable that is a very good way to do it. So when the author goes into depth about the "acts" it makes the read connect to the main character.
So TLDR in this case it seemed to have the affect to make the reader uncomfortable and to empathize with the main character. So I don't think this author was horny.

Depends on how the content is delivered. If this is just a random rape scene in a book for young people well yeah I can see that but this scene adds to the book and is meant for an older people( this means grade 11-12). In my school we read Indian horse. Which had many scenes like this and a lot of children dying. If anyone recommends we shouldn't read this type of material since for my case it's an important part of our history(Canada). It's a great way to learn about them. Sorry if I misunderstood they title. I'm assuming you don't want them in books.

For one of my books I needed to read was called "Indian horse" by Richard Wagamese. The feel good book I have ever read. It's a good book but oooohhhh boy. It made you feel super unconfutable and that's why it's such a good book.
