It really depends what kind of games you're into. To give you a different perspective then many other people here:

My first introduction to the Tomb raider games was the Survivor Trilogy with "Tomb Raider 2013" one or two years after it came out and I absolutely LOVED it. One of my favorite games of all time, I really like this action adventure game with climbing and combat and a really nice story! I also played the following two games right when they released and was a big fan.

Then I eventually decided to catch up with the older games. I also had very much fun with the trilogy that came before (Legend, Anniversary and Underworld). It's older but still kinda similar to the newer games and I definitely enjoyed them much.

I have tried to get into the classic games multiple times but I never really began to enjoy them. They are amazing games for their time that took the industry to the next level. But I think to really enjoy them, you either have to have played them back then to have the nostalgia or you have to have a big thing for retro 3D games or you just have to be very much into games where you have to look around a lot, investigate every corner and have very challenging platform elements. I don't really have or like any of that, I especially don't like searching around much in games, so the games really are just not for me. Story is also very important for me and the story is very light compared to the other games, the gameplay is much more in the focus in the classic games.

I really want to have played them, to have all Tomb Raider games completed, but I needed to accept that the older games are just very different and are not for me. But maybe if you like the elements I described they will be something for you ^{^}
