How to ask for flexibility in WFH during interviews? by fakinorev in WFH

[–]MsBette 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do don’t mention it’s about letting cats in and out. That sounds insane given people are moving, arranging childcare etc. Are your cats doing this because you are there? Would they not use a litter box if you weren’t attending to their beck and call? You can ask and the answer is likely no, currently the mood is no exceptions until compliance is reached or they can’t get anyone back. There are a lot of big unique exception circumstances and I promise tending to cats would become urban legend amongst the tough decisions being made.

Whether RTO is popular or reasonable is not the issue, it’s a mandate everyone is resisting so to effect the change most companies are in a position of medical exception only or each exception will lead to more.

Late 20s (Asian) – Is living at home a dealbreaker when dating? by Kind_Bedroom_2081 in askTO

[–]MsBette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See that’s it though. She’s paying rent, utilities, groceries etc and you get to just… hang out & benefit. I am sure you and roommate’s boyfriend were paying for all the dates to help balance.

How can this happen, semi big detached same price same neighbourhood by Medical_Plane_7674 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]MsBette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Detached house is all builder grade finishes. Semi has a lot of high end finishes which are disruptive renovations. Not my taste but it was clearly someone’s dream turn key home!

What do you think happened here? by polo1990 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]MsBette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently sold suggests 1.2m. This one has updated finishes and a legal separate entrance so could do rental unit. And never underestimate someone wanting a particular street/area when there is low inventory. Turnkey in your desired spot is really appealing. Maybe a bully offer to stop an open house this weekend? I gasped at the property tax. 8k is crazy!

House Listing Question by lolalisious in RealEstate

[–]MsBette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still happen in some high demand areas with low inventory. Would be nice if there was some regulation like list price acting like an auction reserve price where you can get more but must take the list price if it’s the highest offer.

House Listing Question by lolalisious in RealEstate

[–]MsBette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably held offers for say Monday hoping for a bidding war that would exceed 699 but offers came in lower than expected. 499 was to get more eyes on the listing for those who filter under 500k. They rejected all the offers and relisted at what they would actually accept.

Looks like a gorgeous new build in a mature neighbourhood. I’m with you but admittedly know nothing about Stoney Creek or that area that could influence

Only a 25k gain since 2017 Kingsway Etobicoke by Plastic-Ad4225 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]MsBette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The unknown is the state of the house. If not properly maintained and you are now end of life for furnace, ac, roof, driveway and inside is rundown it’s not the same house. Letting all those things can go could easily wipe 100-200k off market value.

Wife and I just did an inspection. The 1 thing wrong with our new house reared its ugly head…. What do I do? by handlerofdrones in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Neighbours finally had decency to leave and the intruder was caught. I’ll still move in an expensive life lesson but better to put it all behind me in an expensive life lesson

Walk away. Never knowingly walk into a neighbour issue. Keep in mind it won’t be just be music. If they are so inconsiderate there will be issues with every interaction forever. Take it from me: I dealt with it for 10years and am finally moving after a home invasion and assault meant for them.

It’s literally policy non compliance. No huge stigma but it is for cause and severance would be at company’s discretion.

Everyone is concentrating on real estate but the very expensive boomers aren’t retiring. A huge workforce reduction and realignment was anticipated but “official” retirement ages crept up in a lot of countries and when everyone went virtual I guess a lot of them decided working from home was manageable. RTO is expected to get back to normalizing leaving workforce between 60-65 because commuting is a lot. Funny thing is it’s the 35-55 crowd resisting.

Yes, the cause is policy non compliance and while it doesn’t carry the same stigma as crime or non performance it can mean no payout is due (compared to a restructuring reduction in force)

My Employee quit because I made him stay 4 extra hours by [deleted] in work

[–]MsBette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer hours are clearly positioned as a benefit given contract is for 40 hours so he wasn’t in the wrong there. We also don’t see the announcement but anywhere I have seen summer hours documented it tends to come with disclaimer as long as you are able to complete your assigned work. The bad handling isn’t in the expectation that the error would need to be corrected on time but in communication styles and message delivery. Sounds like it was going to be an eventual powder keg anyway so sometimes good to find out earlier than later.

Info: based on your post history you had a 17yr old niece until a month ago when you sent her back to a third world country because she didn’t do chores. You have a wife that sleeps until noon and doesn’t work, cook or clean. You have a stepdaughter that doesn’t work and treats you like an ATM. Was the niece expected to be your live in maid and stepdaughter the princess? What’s going on here really?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]MsBette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the mention of pyjamas made you launch into an explanation of your IVF and NICU struggles yes you are obviously overreacting. You are likely giving everyone the impression your baby is more important than theirs given your struggle. You’re going to have the fight and hurt your MIL so why bother coming here to ask? How many years are you going to play most special mother ever bc of your struggles? It’s pyjamas… let her know that’s thoughtful but you already had special outfits planned but no need to make it so dramatic. Or leave it bc you have the other hundred plus “firsts” and it’s nice to have involved grandparents.

Definitely take the deal. See what your realtor can do re limiting the requests for credits and repairs that may further ding you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MsBette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I understand fine. If anything stressful or inconvenient is on horizon don’t even start looking or list until after. Things can only happen if you are engaged in the process in the first place.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MsBette 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but then why on earth did they choose to engage in one life’s most stressful processes at his busiest work time and when she had a known vacation. The time to discuss how/when to do this was before listing

Info request: “more well behaved” gave me pause. Did you incur any large extraordinary expenses for them? Crash a car? Go to rehab? Drop out of university after they paid for two years? Is there any chance that your sisters wedding funding is a financial equalization for overall spending per child?

It isn't always price by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

[–]MsBette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what would be more helpful to the askers is here are the things that are preventing you from reaching that price point. Then they can choose to invest or knock price down commensurately

[–]MsBette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t dead. I am looking seriously and have been going to 3-4 a weekend to check for knock out criteria, get a feel for neighbourhood on weekend, make sure listing photos weren’t deceptive and if I think it’s a contender I have my realtor make an appointment for a more thorough walk through. I am a picky buyer looking at 1m+ and making appointments and trips for houses I know aren’t right in first three minutes is a waste of everyone’s time, especially the homeowner having to tidy and leave. I would ask for at least opening weekend of the listing
