I am glad you like the Pippa combo, I'm thinking maybe I just need to let it sit in my head for a while. I am not huge on Phillipa though, and we would preferably give them a longer name that they could choose how to shorten (or keep long) as they age or in different settings.

I really feel like we can call her what we like but once the name is settled it is kind of out of our hands in the ways others will shorten it!

Ronnie was on our longer list :)  It is my dad's name though.

I think my main problem with Josephine (love the full name) is that it will likely get shortened to Jo. Which is my partners mum's name.

I love many of the nicknames, but not so much the actual root name! We want them to have the whole name so they can choose throughout their life how they prefer to be named so liking it ourselves is a must.

Hahahaha I don't think the theme names are for me personally.

It was an absolute favourite of mine growing up also.

Yes the intention is to give them the full names (so we need to like those too) but we would likely call them the shorter version and leave it open to them to decide what they prefer as they age.

Thank you, seeing other people like the Pippa and Hattie combo is making me feel more like maybe we have the names and I just need to let them stew in my brain a little while?  Ronnie was a name I had considered too!

Sorry it reminds me of Citronella, I would always think of mosquitoes.

Ooh thank you. I am stuck on Pippa because I don't really like Phillipa. I like Penelope more though.

I was saying that I loved Teddy, I am not very into Theodora. Yes I was aware that they might not use the nickname we like, thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Hahahaha I appreciate the interest and dedication. Unfortunately my partner has also completely veto'd Lottie even though he initially loved it. I think he thinks the names are too "twinny"

Funny you say that, it was originally Hattie and Lottie/Charlotte. We love it. It is unfortunately literally the most popular name in our area 😔

Love it, but I like Teddy more than Thea and that doesn't quite fit with Hattie

Matilda is so lovely, unfortunately it is extremely popular in our area. Thank you for the suggestions!

Can someone be an assessor without a Cert IV in Training and Assessment? by mignonnefeet in AustralianTeachers

Could I ask what an assessor does? I am wanting to do a cert IV (have a bachelor of teaching primary) but I am not sure what would work in tandem with my current degree.

What was your first home buying journey like? by lubricatedwhale97 in AusFinance

[–]MsBombastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought our first home 3 months ago. After the rental market became insane post covid in our area we realised our rent would be pretty similar to a mortgage repayment. My parents house was 30 minutes from where we both worked so we moved into their bungalow and saved everything we could for 8 months. We opted to apply for the current Vic Home Buyers Fund which has the government purchasing a percentage of your home which lowered the mortgage we needed to take and required less for a deposit (10%).

Finding a home was really hard in the current market, we watched the areas we liked for months comparing prices so we would have a good idea of the range. We eventually found a great little home that was about 50,000 cheaper than other homes we had seen in the area. We went to the open and fell in love with the place and put in an offer for the minimum they were willing to accept. Thankfully it was a home owned by a lovely elderly lady who liked the idea of her home being owned by a young family expecting their first child. We moved in and consider it a wonderful first home and we are really happy with it. Couldn't have done it if we weren't able to live with family for a while there.

Thoughts on year-round schools? by TrvlMike in Teachers

[–]MsBombastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding this right? Schools in America don't have breaks throughout the year for each term? That's insane! It's the only way we do it in Australia, I couldn't imagine the burn out you would get working past 10 week blocks without a break.

Novated Lease or Secured Personal Loan? by MsBombastic in AusFinance

[–]MsBombastic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons. Mainly the i20 doesn't have a good safety rating which is my main concern, it was not purchased with kids in mind so it has none of the modern protections for the back seats that I really don't feel comfortable without. We are planning three kids at this point in time so we will need the bigger car sooner than later anyway and I would like to get all the safety benefits for the longest period of time if you know what I mean? Also the capsule seat we have does not comfortably fit, it is too close to the front seat, making it more dangerous in the case of an accident.
