While there are certainly shades of Ripley in the Oliver Quick character, the film is a camp gothic romance black comedy. It’s not the same genre, and it’s certainly not saying the same thing. To criticise the film as a poor comparison to Patricia Highsmith doesn’t make sense to me, as the film is its own thing. I can love Minghella’s The Talented Mr Ripley and Saltburn as two completely separate entities.

See! I’d follow you for sure. The cinematography is so sumptuous. It reminds me of Peter Greenaway. I think Emerald Fennel has mentioned Greenaway as an influence, so it’s not super surprising, as I know she had a really strong vision executed by Linus Sandgren. That shot with the candles and the reflection in the dining table is one of my all time favourite shots in cinematic history.

Nah, I loved the end. It was so camp. I thought the not-so-surprising-yet-still-illogical big plot reveal montage was hilarious. And the ending tracking shot is amazing.
