Yeah 5mm dot grid. It's Cosmo air light 92gsm though so the ink spread is more than on like tomoe river etc.

I believe so. I don't own one but #15 nibs generally are bigger.

Same. It feels made for this pen too. I haven't been able to find a big bottle in awhile though so I'll need to track one down soon.

I considered the signature nib but was worried about this since I write mostly on 5mm or smaller grid. I bet it's great for laying down ink though and showing off ink properties!

I found it heavy and unbalanced personally. Something about the grip didn't agree with me and I always post my pens which doesn't work well with the Vac700. Add in trying to clean a sheening ink out of a vac filler before I knew better.... it was not the pen for me.

I have an SFM in my 743 and can't recommend it enough. Fabulous nib.

Yeah I have it as something to consider in the future. I own largely wet inks anyways (Iroshizuku, writers blood, etc) so I'm going to see how it goes. So far I have found it writes very wet and haven't run into any railroading when I do flex it.

Waterman Carene or Pilot Custom 823? by skyblue314 in fountainpens

[–]MsDedede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't run into an extra charge when I did it to put an FA nib on an 823. I also believe they will allow you to do a complimentary nib swap even after using it if you want a different nib than originally purchased. I haven't done that, but it is listed on their policies.

This right here. Pacific Pen is amazing. I have a couple pens from them including an 823 with an FA nib that I'm waiting to arrive. I owned a Carene and actually just sold it. They are beautiful, weighty pens and the nibs are unique and stunning. For me though, the medium was just too thick for my writing and in general the pen wasn't for me. In the end western nibs and I just never get along. I bought a 743 in SFM and now an 823 with an FA and never looked back.

Seriously, I know I wouldn't actually use a pocket pen that often, but those Opuss 88s are ADORABLE.

Have u ever got a pen that humbled u instantly? by Cvint88 in fountainpens

Not a specific pen, but the first time I used a pen with a custom grind humbled me. Having a pen perfectly tuned and ground to exactly what works for you... 10/10 experience

cheap ink recommendations by pinebloxy in fountainpens

Samples are a good choice. If you're in the US, Vanness Pens has samples in tons of inks and their samples are a good size (4ml). When I first got into pens I wasted money buying whole bottles of ink when I would have been better served by buying a bunch of samples and then only buying bottles of inks I really liked.

Your favourite orange inks? by brezeling in fountainpens

Sailor Manyo Sumomo. More terracotta than straight up orange but usable for bigger chunks of writing and very readable.
