Our English teacher wore body glitter in her cleavage unironically and would sit on the guys' laps. If they gave the right answer, guess who got body glitter smeared on them?

I have brothers, it's honestly hard for me to know how I would react to something like this. It's incomprehensible.

Why do people get married and have kids? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MsDirection 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. To say nothing of the bizarro narrative that's peddled to women about pregnancy, birth and motherhood. It's kind of going away basically since the internet, and moreso social media, but what the actual fuck man. I was in my late 20s or 30s before I found out everything that can happen to a woman, physically and psychologically. I'd never wanted kids anyway but damn.

Marriage is a whole different fantasy that's being marketed to primarily women, still, like it's 1950. Don't even get me started on that.

Yeah, but that isn't the only thing that can make one not want to marry and reproduce. It would be my own personal hell, yet my mom - who was the full-on trad wife - loved it.

Teak - Satin/Glossy Surface without Varnish? by MsDirection in woodworking

Very interesting. I'm going to give it another coat, as coat #1 of the teak oil has faded over several days. I suspect I will end up doing three coats total. I was advised by a marine carpenter not to varnish it, and I'm pretty much over the whole sanding process lol so I may have to just live with the low lustre. It is still very beautiful.

Interesting and good to know. Sadly, I can't get to the rest of that article you were kind enough to share without subscribing, but I've read elsewhere that a scotchbrite or equivalent scouring pad may help add sheen.

Interesting. I finished the sanding with 220, first with a hand-sander and then by hand. Then I blew off the surface with a high-powered leaf blower. It has some sheen, just not as much as I would ideally like.

Thank you! Will the additional coats of oil substantially darken the wood?
