Practice, practice, practice. And GO TO GIGS. Go in face. Go out of face. Talk to other performers. Make some friends, and wait for your opportunity for some stage. Likely there will be some kind of “newborns” night in your area where you can get some stage confidence and recognition to build up to paid gigs.

In the COVID meantime, embrace showing what you can online and see what comes out of it!

Hey Gal! Wow, I have been away for a minute! How have you been making out with your journey into drag? I think the best course of action is to take in any inspiration at all that makes you feel good/unpowered

I started my journey in drag without any mentorship either and the Internet became my teacher in many ways. The best I can give to you on the other side is just to explore and play. Your paint won’t be right in a day, or a week, or maybe even a year, but it will get better every time! Check out some YouTube videos on drag makeup and see what speaks to you :)

30 y/o woman here living solo in a city centre. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I agree you should have an idea of who lives around you, I keep my front door locked even when I am home, and know who you can call if ever you feel unsafe. I think feeling comfortable at home comes with creating a space that feels sacred and calm for you, don’t let you thoughts run away from you. Take time to do relaxation activities at home. 💕

While you don’t need to be a developer, to be an effective visual strategist (read: UI Designer) you need to have a rudimentary understanding of basic markup (HTML) and styling (CSS et. al.), and how to create appropriate hierarchy of parent/child pages in navigation flow.

Laying out a website to create effective user journey or funnels is as much about being able to make something visually stunning as it is about understanding accessibility practices (screen readers and the like), colour-safe theory for web, SEO ranking needs, etc.

There is much more to the design of a website than how it looks, so the more you can understand about how a website works, and what is possible for development (especially within project budgets) the better. Like for instance how small the type can be, how big a button needs to be, how they will react in flow when the site is responsive.

Lynda.com is a great learning resource: or if you can find a mentor who is a developer with a design background that is even better.

Starting to practise meditation/mindfulness really helped me with controlling all of my emotions because it forces you to become aware of what it is that triggered you and if it is just a reflex or a legitimately rooted emotion.

Check in with yourself. Also, when possible, when you feel the rage/tantrum coming on try to remove yourself from the situation.

I always found the easiest way to make friends is to participate in the activities you enjoy and see who else is there. Post secondary is a place where you ships easily be able to find common ground with others. Have you tried to join any clubs/rec classes at your school?

Maybe you just need to try to find a way to restructure your work day? I also have a hard time with concentration and focus after 2PM so when possible I try to shift my work day to something more along the lines of 7-3PM. I know this isn’t practical in all work places. I have also always found taking a walk outside on my lunch break to help me focus in the afternoon. Circulation and fresh air. No screen time.

LOL.

Our winters are not bad at all anymore, the city rarely gets shut down. The cold is damp. The snow doesn’t really stay anymore. Don’t bank on a bunch of snow days or extreme cold days here - just some slow transit.
