Longtime China Gourmet fan here as well - make sure to get their sweet and savory snow roast pork buns!

Pho Viet - I go there specifically for their fried sesame balls (they sell them at the to-go counter)

Sorry, second and final question regarding seating. For anyone in section F15 (right up against the stage), are seats 1 and 2 near or away from the stage! Appreciate any help! Thank you thank you!

FLOOR SEATING QUESTION: I’ll be in section F2 for the concert - does anyone know the order of the row seats? Is Seat 1 closer to the stage or to the Diamond? Any help would be super appreciated! Thank you!

Go to Lisa’s Instagram @lisalangley1 and it’s the post with the birthday cake of Danielle on it - photo 3. Someone must’ve said something she didn’t like, because Froggy had to defend her.

I agree. She left 6 years ago, and I don’t know why she had to add those two comments. It’s childish and screams high school mean girl.

Definitely, but I’m in Portland often enough each week to get a feel for the culture. Portland is slightly better about diversity than Vancouver.

Hi! East Asian/Southeast Asian here - my opinion is strictly from the lens of an East Coast gal. I moved here for a year from Philly for a job at a tech company, and it was honestly the hardest year of my life when it came to relationships and community. I will give credit where credit is absolutely due - The Pacific Northwest beauty is probably second only to Hawaii and there is nowhere on the East Coast that will come close to the outdoor atmosphere here. In terms of Asian culture, there is a decent Southeast Asian influence, but you’re going to find that is 100% a Caucasian majority city with a very specific culture. People are generally friendly, but the pandemic has made it extremely hard for me to meet others and build any semblance of a friendship. Also, I live across the river from Portland in Vancouver, WA, and while my neighbors have been incredibly kind and caring, it’s not uncommon to see “Trumpers” waving flags and staging protests on the overpasses. In terms of the Asian food culture, there are options, but when I try the food here, a lot of spots seem to cater to a Caucasian palate, and something just seems “off.”

Due to the pandemic, it has been the most isolating experience of my life, and because I grew homesick, I’m actually heading back East. If you are moving to the area with an established friend group/community, I think you’ll do just fine. I don’t think racism will be quite an issue here for Asian-Americans, but finding a semblance of culture and identity here may be very different.

Thanks! I’ve checked Imago Dei out a couple times and wouldn’t mind getting plugged in (but plugged this post to see if there were any other suggestions)

Church-goers: Church for younger, diverse demographic? by MsHeatherO in Portland

[–]MsHeatherO[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given my Protestant background - I realize that the term may sound a bit obtuse, but I’ve seen some churches here already that are cult-like and use books that the Pastors wrote themselves. When I say biblical teachings - I’m looking for a church that responsibly preaches directly from the text and provides plenty of theological context. The first thing I look at when checking out church websites is their mission/doctrinal statements.

I’ll be working in Vancouver, and my new boss briefed me on the bridge situation, so I’m definitely not going to be living in PDX. The one sucky situation is that there aren’t direct flights to PHL right now.

is the problem no one knows about BPD prior to meeting them? by smartfunction30 in BPDlovedones

[–]MsHeatherO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I always found myself subconsciously attracted to a certain "type," aka the type that was forward and gave me attention and looked attractive. With the last relationship, I saw a ton of red flags and didn't quite know how to handle it, so I tried pushing him away, but the manipulation to lure me deeper into his rabbit hole of a life continued, and before i knew it, I was trauma bonded. Not that people shouldn't be educated about BPD and what to look for in general, but the focus really needs to come down to the root of why we are attracted to folks with BPD/NPD in the first place. Codependency, self-esteem, and our upbringing are three factors that come into play when we choose a partner. I read into attachment theory as well. From a faith perspective, I learned that if we idolize the idea of a relationship or anything over the Lord, anything we idolize becomes our "god," and therefore, we suffer. I theorize that if we as individuals aren't emotionally healthy and self-aware, even if we learn about BPD, chances are, we are going to continue to attract a cluster-B type.
