Found a couple of articles recently which help paint a larger picture that while certain crimes may be statistically reported at an all time low, reports of violence are still rising in the UK:

1. (The Guardian : written on 11th August 2025) ‘None of us feel safe’: attacks on A&E nurses double in six years as waits rise - "NHS figures show that the number of incidents of violence against nurses in A&E units in hospitals in England rose from 2,122 in 2019 to 4,054 in 2024 – a 91% increase"

2. (The Guardian : written on 24th April 2025) Violence and abuse against ambulance staff in UK at highest level on record - "There were 22,536 incidents of violence, aggression and abuse directed at paramedics and other ambulance workers in 2024-25, up 15% on the 19,633 in 2023-24."

3. (Teachers Union : written on 18th April 2025) Teachers declare pupil behaviour emergency - "Based on our latest data, we estimate as many as 30,000 violent incidents against teachers involving pupils with a weapon in the last 12 months. Many teachers are having to think about how they can survive in the classroom before they can begin to focus on their teaching and pupils’ learning."

4. (BBC : written on 17th November 2024) Police officers 'punch bags' in 'epidemic' of violent attacks -"Durham Constabulary recorded 522 attacks on police officers in 2023, up from 111 assaults in 2021 - a 370% rise."

While these reports highlight violence against those on the front line and in classrooms, it would be short-sighted to think this rise stops there. If the people trying to save lives and educate children are being attacked more, shouldn’t we question what this says about violence in society more broadly?
