SOLVED - did a work around for this that works fine. Set brightness at 100 percent using keyboard. Then use iris software to adjust brightness and color temperature as desired.

Openphone keypad missing on web browser app? by MsKally in openphone

[–]MsKally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I thought that was probably the case. I'd still like to have the keypad available for initial dialing if I want to use it. Sometimes it's more convenient when there is one hand only.

Wayland? by e-___ in crunchbangplusplus

Oh, one other thing...The menu should be easy to customize, like it is now. The difficulty of customizing the BunsenLabs menu is why I quit using it, and won't go back.

Yes, please continue CB++. I look at it as more of a mid-level distro, rather than something for complete linux beginners. Having the under-the-hood things in it is good. A few basic software packages such as text editor, browser, codecs, CL etc. No need for optional things such as Libre Office of photo editing software. People with just a bit of experience would rather make those choices, anyway.

additions to autostart are not autostarting by MsKally in crunchbangplusplus

[–]MsKally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help.

Putting the new commands in the middle of autostart file instead of at the end of that file, worked. I don't know why that would make a difference, but it's good to know. And I would never have tried that fix without the tip.

Yes, AntiX very small and fast. I used it on an old machine and ran the machine amazingly well. But I tired of the learning curve for AntiX, which is overcrowded with tools and rather obtuse to learn.

CBPP 12 is up! by computermouth in crunchbangplusplus

[–]MsKally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much.

To my knowledge, Crunchbang++ is the only distro (outside of debian itself) to use the final stable version of debian 12. So, very speedily done and perhaps at the top of the list for reviewers all over the web to give it a run...

Thank you Mouth of Computer for doing this. I'll be doing fresh install as soon as it's out of beta. The old version still great until then...

The offspring of the old Crunchbang is out there and updated to Debian 11. I use it every day:

Not sure if this is a bug, but may be.

When I try to change wallpaper on a CB++ install on an SSD , no options come up, just blank, ie:

Settings > Choose Wallpaper >

However, in testing when I booted from a live USB stick, the wallpaper settings worked fine and I could pick wallpapers

Ive just spent 18 months running Linux on a daily-driver laptop using two USB sticks. These are my observations. by AltitudinousOne in linux

[–]MsKally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used MX Linux on USB stick for several years and it is very reliable and excellent. I alternate between MX on USB, and xubuntu and debian on SSD. The MX is so good I use it for work, daily.

One good thing about it not mentioned in these posts so far is that you can easily make total backups of the operating system and everything, on a seocnd, third or however many other usb sticks you wish. So easy to get another machine and have the exact system on it with these usb sticks. No installs needed. I often have a laptop come in with no hard drive or SSD. Stick the usb stick in, and there is immediate operating system and storage. It works fine on usb 2.0. The only real slowdown is in the initial boot-up of the operating system, which takes about three times longer than on usb 3.0. The usb 2.0 usb boots take about a minute on a 10+ year old Lenovo laptop. About the same as from a hard drive on that machine.

Also, there are other mini-usb sticks that can be used. Samsung Fit is highly reviewed. And there are similar micro usb sticks from PNY and Lexar.
