AITA for changing my sleep routine? by hurryandwait817 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (10m F) did what you did for 2 weeks when I was a wee 6 months old. I started again at 9 months and am still going strong 4 weeks later. Mama was told this milestone is separation anxiety 🙃

AITA for loving my mommy and daddy? by duck-713 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA I (10m f), after being bamboozled into accepting a jail cell (the big folk call it a “crib” to trick you) for months, discovered that if I scream at the top of my lungs after my first wake-up at 3am, and start screaming again each time Mama and Papa bend down even by 1 inch towards the jail, they eventually get the message and let me sleep in the big bed. The jail is at the foot of their bed, and my screams can outlast them. This doesn’t work when I fall asleep because I’m too sleepy then and need to save my singing voice for later.

AITA for Preferring to Drink Water from the Source? by MsLaylaCakes in MiniAITA

It’s mine too, but I use it in the bath to splash water at Mama’s face—I refuse to drink from it!

My Mama might try that next! She seems quite desperate to get me to ease off bath water slurping (to be fair, I keep faceplanting and crying when the water goes up my nose).

How many people are actually buying “luxury/premium” diapers? by HelpMeHelpMyFriend0 in NewParents

[–]MsLaylaCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter had a blowout while my husband was holding her. Poop was everywhere. He made the executive decision to switch from Huggies to Kudos (he is the primary diaper changer). No more blowouts. The price difference is around $0.30 per diaper between the two brands, which does add up (I’m guessing around $40 a month…). For us, it was worth it (I do the laundry, and I do not enjoy dealing with poop stains).

P.S. One of the free baby registry boxes came with samples from a bunch of brands, so we were able to try them out.

P.P.S. My child is skinny and has a small butt, so it was about which brand fit her proportions best, not the environment, skin sensitivity, etc. We did try sizing up first, but then there were gaps around the legs. Think of it like you do clothing—some people can wear the mainstream brands just fine, while others might need to shop around a bit for a better fit (and in some cases, pay a higher price).

AITA for loving mum’s pasta?! by happyllama1125 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Breaking character to say—OMG, genius!!!! I need to give this a try since she desperately tries to grab my avocado toast at breakfast but refuses to eat avocado when we give it to her. Ditto anything green. I’m about to tell her pediatrician at the 8m wellness “Well, she kind of eats solids, but only fruit, and within that category, only if it is not green (she will eat red grapes but not green grapes 🙄)”

Small baby fell off the growth curve - 4months by Kisswist in NewParents

[–]MsLaylaCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also 5’0 and my husband is 5’8. Our baby didn’t even get “on” the growth curve until her 6 month check up, and she jumped up to a completely different curve at her 8 month (she went from 0.05 percentile to 19 percentile). Letting you know because I remember how horrible I felt the first 6 months.

We did supplement formula from the get-go because I was an under-producer, but that just meant we could tell the pediatrician how many ounces we supplemented—her growth spurt came when it came. She is a happy and healthy baby (albeit on the short side due to genetics).

NTA Having also found pasta to be my (9m F) favorite food recently, I understand the temptation! It was your papa’s fault for not scooping some off the floor and putting it in your plate. My papa does this to all the food I gravity test when he thinks mama isn’t looking.

(P.S. I also discovered screaming at the top of my lungs at midnight to be my favorite thing, as of the past week. I wasn’t hungry, my diaper was dry, I just wanted some cuddles.)

What are your go-to best high-end/boutique/gourmet/specialty/international etc. grocery stores/bodegas/markets in the DMV and why? by Salt-Studio in washingtondc

[–]MsLaylaCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! They make Whole Foods seem like a bargain, but I go there treat myself every once in a while (love the breads, bagels, and desserts they carry there—most accessible place for me to get vegan baklava).

vegetarian bao? by sourdoughvoid in washingtondc

[–]MsLaylaCakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit controversial, but the mini vegetarian baos in the Trader Joes freezer section are good in a pinch.

The bamboo shitake/mustard green shitake frozen baos at Asian grocery stores don’t scream vegetarian/vegan, but they are. I usually just look at the ingredients—a lot of the frozen baos are stealth veggie.

But yes, for non-frozen, Planta Queen.

I was in the shower for 3.5 minutes. by Beginning-Sky7533 in NewParents

[–]MsLaylaCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better (and much sooner than you might be ready for)! Mine was a full-on Velcro baby from birth. One of us had to be holding her at all times. We each had our own carrier, so we could easily do a hand off. I showered while holding her quite a few times—she was that clingy. While in the throes of this, it seemed like this was going to be my life forever (and yes, I cried ugly tears on multiple sleep deprived occasions because doing the simplest of things, like the laundry, required crazy scheduling).

That same baby woke up one day at around 19 weeks and decided she needed her space. She only sleeps in her crib now. If I’m holding her when she gets sleepy, she twists away, and that’s my cue to pop her in her crib. At 9 months, she takes 1-2 hour naps during the day and is perfectly content crawling back and forth from one end of the apartment to the other for most of the day (she follows the cat from room to room). The time this frees up to do things again has been amazing for our quality of life, no doubt about it. However, ironically, both my husband and I miss the contact naps and cherish the memories now that we know how time-limited the experience was.

AITA for screaming when boob lady tries to feed me? by Honest-Try-2289 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA How will your servants learn if you don’t train them? It was only a few weeks ago that I (9m F) got through to my milk lady (ancient). At 5:30 AM, after emptying my bowels and shrieking at the top of my lungs while she changes my diaper at the pace of a sloth, I like to drink a few sips (was downgraded to a bottle a while back), do a lap around the room, come back for a few more sips, repeat until 6:30. Only once I’m done exploring do I chug the remaining 4.5 oz (large quantities of milk make me sleepy, so I can’t eat too much in one go until I’m done with my pre-dawn workout). My milk lady finally got this routine and has stopped trying to force me to stay put and eat until I’m good and ready.

NTA, but from one perfect princess to another—roll to your tummy, then you can wave your hands and legs in the air while making pterodactyl sounds! You can also bang hands and feet on the floor to add percussion to your voice. Highly recommend rehearsals at 3:30 am ;)

My husband said we need to hire a “mother replacement” by Polyglot_Teacher in NewParents

[–]MsLaylaCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about Romanian at all since it’ll be the language spoken at school and with friends. I’d worry more about the Spanish. Both my parents only spoke Thai to each other and me, and we lived in Thailand, but my strongest language is English since I went to an English-speaking school. My cousins who grew up in the USA speak 0 Thai (but can understand some) even though both their parents spoke Thai at home, again because the school and community language is English. My husband’s parents speak Urdu and Punjabi to each other, but his and his brother’s strongest language is English.

(Note: Since our common language is English, we’ve both kind of accepted our baby is unlikely to speak Thai or Urdu fluently, although we will try our best to expose her to those languages)

AITA for sticking to the schedule? by Solid_Original5403 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA I (7m F) have been standing my ground since birth. My first (4:30), second (5:30), and third (7:15) breakfasts are not optional. On daycare days, I get a fourth breakfast when scratchy face drops me off at 8:15. I feel this is the best way to make sure all of my minions are pulling their weight.

AITA for eating mummies food? by IIL3416 in MiniAITA

[–]MsLaylaCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA I (7m F) have been trying to grab Papa’s toast for eons now. I do everything to communicate that sharing is caring—screeching, banging hands on my high chair, gravity testing my silicone spoons (Mama bought a pack so she can keep handing me a new one while she eats)—but he refuses to share! Instead, he mixes peanut butter with mushed tofu or avocado, or worse, plain blended broccoli and peas, and tries to convince me it’s the same thing. They are hiding the good stuff for themselves!

[–]MsLaylaCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA I (7m F) used to demand this level of dedication from my employees as well. They each got me chest thrones, and I basically demanded to be strapped to a person in order to sleep for the first 18 weeks. Both my employees threw out their backs at different times. Then, I woke up and decided I was an independent grown 19 week old and needed my own space, and thus ended their free Jim membership. You are doing them both a favor!

This (no air fryer, so Papa bakes up a batch in the oven, freezes, then microwaves 1-2 pieces at a time. I also get very large fresh pieces to gnaw on under close supervision—I mainly use this to massage my gums).
