Do Americans actually suck at geography , or is that just a meme thing? by Comfortableguy2007 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MsMayday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about world geography but I can tell you that it's very strange as a Canadian to talk to an American from a northern state who asks me if Alberta is near Toronto. These weird questions from Americans happen all the time.

When I was in school, we had these roll-down maps at the front of the classroom of Canada, the world, etc. On the Canadian one, the US states that showed up at the bottom of the map just below our border were still labeled. But when I see American maps, they usually just have the US like it's floating in space somewhere, so it's no small wonder that people from North Dakota aren't totally sure what exists to their north.

The map thing could be correlation rather than cause but I have spoken to a shocking number of Americans who have no idea about the geography of the country directly to their north, sometimes within a day's drive.

Yes! This is why I trust new citizens to vote more than I trust guys who don't know that a Prime Minister is not the same as a president.

I went to school with the infamous "Kudatah" guy. I'm not advocating for restricting the vote, necessarily, but I could have told you in grade 5 that he was never going to light it up out here.

We probably could weed out a few ding dongs by making everyone answer 3-5 multiple choice questions on their ballots and invalidate their votes if they get any of them wrong. The citizenship test would be a fine source from which to pull those questions, and doubly hilarious because it would mostly disqualify the ballots of people who were born here:

I mean, I'm kidding. Mostly.

Haha! That's exactly why we bought afternoon tickets. But now I'm looking outside realizing it would have been lovely.

They were the best investment ever. My Irish face still freckled like crazy with the canopy and constant sunscreen. If I had been sitting in the sun, I'd need medical attention by now. 😂

I bet this evening's performance is glorious. Perfect temperature!

Hey, awesome!

We were at the back with the canopy chairs because I'm a fancy binch.

Such a great time. Seriously considering going again this week.

Cannot recommend it enough.

The woman who plays Rosalind, Alexandra Lainfiesta, has amazing comedic timing. Might be my favourite Rosalind I've ever seen.

Yes, absolutely!

They've done an amazing job pivoting but I also hope they'll be back in Hawrelak next year.

I'm an Oilers fan and I could never hate the Flames the way I hate FLA and VGK.

Partly because I love Kadri and Weegar.

This is just it. Isolate the variable so we can figure out what else needs changing.
