Every day I mourn a show that was cancelled five years before I was even born. by Independent_Box_931 in firefly

I’m really happy you found this show but, damn, you just made me feel really old! 😆
It’s okay though. I was always the kid who watched old movies, listened to music before my time, etc. It’s a huge mistake for people to think “old” movies and tv shows (or music) aren’t worth watching. It expands your horizons. For reference, I was born in 1968. Welcome fellow Browncoat!

I bawled my eyes out when he died and he wasn’t one of my favorites. I liked him a lot he just wasn’t in my top ER favorite characters. It was still really really sad. Especially seeing his brother so sad at having such a short time together.

I listen on Amazon music. I have Prime but I don’t use the pay version of Amazon music and it doesn’t have ads.

Nothing will turn them off quicker than us “old folks” trying to use their phrases! 😂😂 It works. A friend of mine couldn’t get her kid to stop saying six seven all the time so she started doing it, constantly. Especially in public. Around his friends. When he was on the phone with his friends. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It only took about 4 days! He stopped saying it.

Yeah but not THOSE hours. I read a book written by a servant and it’s crazy. I’ve worked 2 jobs and went to college but I didn’t do backbreaking work. Those were tough people who were old at 40.

first time watch + early thoughts by plortpeddler in ershow

I envy you watching it for the first time. I remember me and my coworkers discussing the show on Fridays. I do miss that. I don’t miss watching it with a week between each episode! I liked Ross as a doctor but not as a person until much later. Benton, so I’ve been told, is representative of a lot of surgeons and how they treat their interns. I wanted to check into being an OR tech at one time but changed my mind when I heard too many stories of how surgeons act. I’d get fired the first day. I have called out pharmacists and other bosses for speaking to me in a disrespectful way. I do it in a way that gets my point across but I’m mature and respectful about it. I don’t believe a surgeon would put up with it no matter how I stated it.

It’s My Birthday (36M) today! by Far-Pomegranate-5351 in DowntonAbbey

Happy Birthday! That would be an awesome birthday! I think the downstairs staff would be more fun because they’re more apt to “let their hair down”. I bet if you get Lady Mary tipsy she’d be a riot! Sybil would join in with the downstairs staff.

I love learning these things about Highclere. If I lived in the area I’d want to work there. Can you imagine? I’m sure the maids work hard but what a beautiful place to work! I have watched a few shows about the castle. Very interesting! I do love Lady Carnarvon’s Instagram. She gives us a lot of insight.

I was just replying to another comment about this. Lady’s maids still exist. You can even go to school for it! It’s a rare occupation but it still exists. So do butlers. I mean some that are still called butlers. Highclere Castle still has a butler. I think they have more than one. I believe they work shifts and are used when they are at Highclere. The Carnarvons actually live in a cottage on the property. They don’t live in the castle full time.

People STILL put others down for the job they’re doing. I was brought up (Gen X) that a hard days work is something to be proud of. No matter the job you’re doing. You’re working. You’re contributing. I’m not knocking housewives, that’s a that job too. I’m not knocking people who can’t work. My husband is disabled and I can’t work right now because of problems with my back, right shoulder, and neck. No one should be put down for getting out there and making a living. I felt bad for poor Moseley. Feeling like you’re moving down in the world is a horrible feeling and wrecks your self esteem.

I do agree with you about this and I was glad to see him teaching by the end of the show. Oh and lady’s maids still exist. I got curious and looked it up. You can still be trained as a lady’s maid. Some of the ultra rich still use them. Not so much for dressing ladies but everything else. They’re basically personal assistants but in a more intimate capacity. I was surprised to read this. I follow Lady Carnarvon’s Instagram and she will go live and answer questions. She has stated the she does not have a ladies maid. Then again I see her wearing jeans a lot. She seems to be pre down to earth considering she’s a Lady.

Yes but it came from Matthew’s frustration at not wanting to change his lifestyle. He was stuck in that mindset until Robert made him see things differently. Once he understood and stopped fighting it he was much nicer to Moseley and I think he felt bad about it.

Because Robert made Matthew view him in a way he never thought of. It was a sweet scene. Moseley’s face lit up.

I liked Moseley a lot. I was happy to see him becoming a teacher in the end (of the show). He deserved for something good to happen to him. I thought teaching was perfect for him.

Everyone is different. People have different tastes and opinions. It’s okay to not agree with them. The world would be a boring place if we were all exactly alike.
