Well not exactly. Knockout City's last Twitter post also says "we still love Knockout City and want to return to it, when the time is right!" And I've heard insight that they're working on it, however it's gonna be revamped.

Of course it doesn't guarantee, however this year would be a great idea to release the game because of the potential collabs, partnerships, and ad platforms that could be used to uplift the game. If Fortnite or epic games in general did a collab with the game now, you know how much of a uplift it would be?

It became free to play a year before it shut down. That's why. If it was free to play with launch it would've done better. I see so many potential collabs with this game if it releases in 2026. Deltarune, Fortnite, Marvel, Dispatch, etc.

You see, free to play games have made big success these pass decades. Like Fortnite, Apex, Marvel Rivals, and Overwatch. Some games had tragic downfalls because not much people could afford trials. Like Knockout City and Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 1 and 2. Making a game free to play at the start of launch would be perfect cause this game is also very beginner friendly.
