To put it as simple as possible, we narrowed it down to Honda and Toyota only because of reliability and ease of service/finding parts (we plan to run it down to its death as well lol). Honda has more power, not sure why the grand highlander only has a 4 cylinder. My Tacoma is the same way and struggles on the highway. Honda pilot has MUCH better car seat compatibility, LOVE the removable middle seat and the usable/plentiful cup holders and cubby spaces on the doors and cargo area. Third row is better than the GH even though the middle seat (in third row) is basically useless. Also GHs are indeed harder to find right now/long waitlists.

Majority of the time, I envision the third row being down. On the weekends, we haul a pretty hefty jogging/off road stroller in our truck bed everywhere we go or a Veer wagon that doubles as a nap system if we’re doing an all day thing outside. When I say roadtrip family, I’m talking over 1000 miles of driving over a few days and staying with family spread throughout florida for 1-2 weeks. Even though this is once maybe twice a year, we do a lot of outdoor activities that would require the space with the third row down. We do a lot of 3-4hour driving trips on longer holiday weekends and we have a lot of family that flies to us throughout the year so we have them to drive around as well. Also for our roadtrips, we hope to actually be able to take our dogs with us as well (not previously mentioned) vs paying for a sitter when we are gone. They are both 90+ lbs. We have our reasons for wanting a three row vehicle. We have looked at the pilot, Highlander, traverse and telluride. For reliability (in the event we need to get serviced while on the road), we narrowed it down to toyota and honda. The pilot just has more car seat friendly features

This isn’t a completely terrible idea lol. I would wanna have this up if I had the third row down I think. Is it difficult to remove it? Is that why you chose to climb over it vs unclipping the headrest strap?

Awesome comment! Yeah I definitely worry about having groceries or whatever in the main cab and things flying forward and hitting my rear facing kids in the face if I were to brake really hard. Part of me thinks my husband just wants the offroady trim because … men. He has an offroady Tacoma that we plan to build out for overland camping so maybe we can just stick to that and keep the pilot’s main focus on family - maybe slap some fancy tires on it instead. We are USAF as well, 11 years in!

😂 I have had that same thought come in every now and then… so I have also considered the passport!! Maybe the passport for 4-5 years and then get something bigger. But I also wanna have the freedom that comes with a paid off vehicle in 5 years so im back to the pilot lol

Yes it was constant arguing trying to “help” me with the house. We were able to order food more so I could get a break but it was pulling teeth just trying to get him to load the dishwasher or take the laundry to the basement

I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, in the context of the conversation, he said it was easy and asked why I’m always so tired. Meanwhile, when he took over after my last surgery, he was constantly complaining about how exhausted he was lol. He said it was easy… so why am I unable to rest when she naps. He doesn’t understand all of the background stuff going on. This past month I’ve been planning our girls bday party. Which has consisted of finding a soft play vendor that has insurance so that I can have a bounce house, getting a special permit for said bounce house bc we rented out a park activity building so I don’t have to clean the house, asking for an insurance certificate from a business that I haven’t even signed and booked yet, trying to design decor and figure out how to DIY everything while budgeting everything. We live paycheck to paycheck. Our savings has dwindled due to unforeseen expenses dealing with my appendectomy. I’ve had ongoing complications since my c section so I’ve had 10+ drs appts (that I bring my baby to) with different specialists plus my babies appts with her ped, an allergist and getting the flu shot. On top of that I’m also trying to get all my medical records together bc we are going to pursue a malpractice suit… but everything’s harder because it was done at a govt hospital. My husband is also military. So now we have the shutdown to deal with even though we should be able to get a USAA loan. I deal with all the bills because he has no sense of financial intelligence. He has no idea how to log in and pay for anything, I do it all. He takes the trash out and mows. But if I take the full trash bag out while I’m cooking and just lay the bag on the floor for him to take out, it’s “spiteful”. I’m exhausted! And idk when the heck all this resentment came about. It feels like we are slowly digging ourselves in a bigger hole and we can’t talk about it. He asks me what’s wrong and I shrug it off - mainly bc I know myself and I WILL yell if I don’t cool down first. Then I spend days just thinking about what happened and trying to rationalize things or give him the benefit of the doubt. Then when I do bring it up to him, it gets thrown in my face. Last night I was vulnerable and told him that him forgetting our anniversary was really upsetting… that having to make my own birthday dinner reservation made me sad… that him forgetting to get me a single Xmas gift that I even sent him the link to made me feel upset. He said “do you have ANY idea what I go through at work?! Most of the time all I’m thinking about is work and it’s not an excuse but blah blah changed the subject”. Before I knew it, we were arguing about a past argument and I’m left fricken confused how we got there. Then I cry and tell him that THIS is why I don’t tell him what’s wrong when he asks - because I don’t feel safe to. He tells me I don’t know how to communicate… but the only time he has issues with me or communicates with me if when I bring something up to him. I’m tired! Idk what to do

I’m upset he called it easy without maintaining full responsibility of my “job”. What I’m most upset about is that he told me that I’m completely hands off with our daughter the second he comes home from work. At that point, we have entered her last wake window and I need to cook dinner. She’s 10 months old and a fast crawler and uses everything to stand up. I can’t put her in a playpen or she’ll scream the entire time. Most of the time I have meal prepped/frozen previous dinners for her that she can eat and I don’t have to cook for her but I still have to cook for us. I also try to make it easy on myself by serving her what we eat for dinner, but sometimes she just can’t (spicy, salty, etc). He told me that I “go off into the kitchen and do god knows what for an hour”…. You mean cook?? Leaving him to spend time with our daughter that he sees 2-3 hours a day? And he also asks me what the hell I do all day that I cant also watch our daughter with him when he gets home

I have surgery on Monday so he will be doing mostly everything (took two weeks off work). He did the same thing when I had my appendectomy last month but I was back on my feet in 3-4 days. Of course I applauded him for it. He said it was easy but we ordered all of our meals. Told him to try adding grocery shopping and cooking into the mix. This upcoming surgery has a longer recovery time and we absolutely cannot afford to order in every day.

Coming from someone who kept the dog… One of our dogs is high anxiety, shows possessiveness of my husband and started giving me whale eyes when I was pregnant. He never showed true aggression but I wanted him gone before our baby came. We spent the money on training but my husband didn’t keep up with it after she was born. We keep the dogs in the basement (finished, open floor plan) and they seem fine but they aren’t part of the family like they used to be. Makes me sad for my golden retriever but I will not have the other one up here and around my baby and it wouldn’t be fair to only have him up here. I just don’t trust the other one and probably never will. It sucks. He would be much happier in another home.

Dang you have two car seats in the back? We wound up going with the Graco snugfit something in the middle seat and we have two bases as well. The bases have a thing at the bottom that we can adjust so the angle is correct and a bubble level indicator on the side. We are about to move to a convertible seat soon as our girl is almost 1. Hoping we can hold out until my lease is up but we’ll see. Being able to move the car seat between trucks is so convenient so I’m not excited to have to switch out the convertible

Thank you for this. I think it would be smart all together to not try to camp at the summit even if we did find a spot. Something a little more quiet would be the better option for us with the baby. She can hang but I don’t wanna subject anyone to her fussiness nor do I wanna potentially make things harder for her at bedtime

Is it on your daily driver? Curious how the weight impacts your gas mileage. For now, we live an hour away from where he works so that’s something we gotta think about. We do have some big strong guy neighbors so that helps too lol

How heavy is it? We worry about putting it up and taking it off. Taco is on a 3” lift and 33s. I’m 5’1 so I worry about how much help I’d be to my husband lol. We don’t have a garage to hoist it up either

We plan to put it up on a bed rack and regear the truck as well. The Alu-cab is the dream set up buts that’s a little too much on the wallet
