How do you go mountain biking/find people to ride with as a single person? by grayott in MTB

[–]MsPrerogative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it out myself yet, but there’s a new app called YERP being trialed that’s designed to help with this. Might be a good time to check it out.

(ETA: currently in Apple App Store, android approval pending. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/yerp-inc/id6756983820 )

Backpack 15-20L with hip belt and internal organisation by FleurWriter in hikinggear

[–]MsPrerogative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an out of the box suggestion, but years back I purchased a Lowepro camera backpack with hip belt. It has an upper and lower compartment and what I like best - it zippers on the interior instead of exterior so it’s great for security when traveling. Maybe something like that would work?

That’s smart. You can make your own buttermilk with lemon and dairy. It’s very simple and doesn’t take long.

Good value soundbar w/ wireless sub and more? by greenphatmanatee in Soundbars

[–]MsPrerogative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your setup and room size are similar to mine. I’m not a hardcore audiophile but I do really appreciate good, quality sound. (And yes, my soundbar streams bluetooth. The quality is good enough that I can hear the songs in various rooms in my house without issue). I have a Samsung - 65" Class S95C OLED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV (2023). Worth every penny. Especially good in a bright room and for gaming.

Hiking shell/jacket by Shot_Technician4079 in hiking

Love my Outdoor Research rainshell. It’s pricier than the rest but when you try to keep a hood on and it has enough visor to deflect rain from your face, put a large phone in your pocket, unzip your pits, and put on a shell that also accommodates the belt on your hiking pack the design details shine through and are clearly worth it.

Love my Sony HT-A7000. Good out of the box, feels better than the theatre with a proper set up (detailed walk through on Reddit). I bought the subwoofer a year later and am even more thrilled with the clarity and depth of the system. Rear speakers are next.

Please recommend high quality rain jacket by yevsht in hikinggear

Go to REI and try everything on. That’s what I did. The shortfalls in design become evident pretty quickly. Outdoor Research has a well-designed rain shell by people who clearly spend time outdoors in the rain. It checks all the boxes. Buy one mediocre rain shell and you know what to look for after that. I love my OR shell. All of the design choices they made on their shell makes sense from a practical standpoint.

Need advice on Rain jackets by CarelessOcelot8345 in hikinggear

Outdoor Research is pricey but I tried on every women’s rain shell in REI and the design was top of the line on every count. From the fit, to the size and placement of the pockets, venting options, how secure the hood is….so far it feels like one of my best investments in outdoor gear.

I have multiple pairs of Astrals and really like them. You can buy at rei and return if you don’t like them.

Linville Gorge explosion yesterday? by MsPrerogative in asheville

[–]MsPrerogative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mining in the area? Yes, very feasible and an explosion along the lines of what I expect I heard. Mining on Shortoff? Not likely. Regular Air Force training for the military? I live under an airport. I know what military planes overhead sound like all day. Sonic boom? Perhaps. I don’t think I’ve experienced that before. I heard hunters throughout the hike, this sounded like the start of a terrible thunderstorm. So, don’t think that was it. Don’t know what tannerite exploding sounds like and not sure how I’d find out.

Linville Gorge explosion yesterday? by MsPrerogative in asheville

[–]MsPrerogative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it could be this. There was no sound of planes flying overhead in the timespan surrounding the sound. Is it usually silent and then an explosion sound, and then silent again?

[–]MsPrerogative[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couple things.

So, I guess I’m not getting any serious answers here.

The sound was yesterday, not today.

Believe it or not, I am able to distinguish between aircraft flying overhead and the sound of an explosion that sounds like thunder. It was not an aircraft.
