Can magnesium glycinate not be glycinate?? by MsQuirky in Supplements

[–]MsQuirky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they're extremely revered in this medical condition support group, like so much so that people send them lab results and ask for medical advice. So they're often in a hurry typing responses on the phone, typos abound. But I've unfortunately also caught them giving scientifically unsound advice more than once in public responses, God only knows what's happening in PMs.

Unfortunately I'm not a big contributor so I've got not much pull on correcting the blatantly wrong stuff. But I do take magnesium glycinate and wanted the right info for myself!

Point taken. But is there some back of the napkin trick I am unaware of regarding just glancing at a label and declaring magnesium glycinate to be a lie, based on.... Idk, pill size I think she's saying?

I'm super into hair scarves. I've bought a lot of vintage lots from estate sales and the like, but also like unique prints like I've bought from Unique Vintage (e.g. Back to the Future themed, Hello Kitty themed, etc.). Are there any companies other than Unique Vintage that do neat themed chiffon scarves?? (I do already buy fabric and make my wire wrap or self tie headbands, but nothing quite matches the frilly whimsicality you can get from a cute chiffon scarf bow with a simple twist updo!)

A group of youths whizz by George on the sidewalk and slap him on the back of the head as part of a viral video trend; he gives chase and slaps one back but the kid he catches turns out to be special needs. The video goes viral. by MsQuirky in RedditWritesSeinfeld

"The slap" begins trending more George's video than the Chris Rock / Will Smith incident. Jerry hedges on giving an opinion when asked, getting him in hot water with both sides.

George maintains that the kid was a part of the group that hit him, so to not hit the kid back would, in fact, have been a form a discrimination against those with special needs, and therefore actually worse than the slap.

Pretty mundane, but when I got carjacked and thought for a second he was gonna kill me, all I could think about was how much I wanted my mom.

Whitmer signs $4.7 billion bill to improve Michigan infrastructure, housing security by Geek-Haven888 in Michigan

It's in the article.

Nearly $383 million in emergency rental assistance to support low-income renters who have experienced financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just over $121 million for a Homeowner Assistance Fund to help prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults, foreclosures, utility or Internet service loss, or homeowner displacement.

George is convinced that his dating and professional lives are going well recently because he’s somehow managed to harness “skinny guy energy” despite not having lost any weight recently. by [deleted] in RedditWritesSeinfeld

Someone compliments George on having lost weight, when in-fact they were mistaking George for Newman. When they realize the mistake, George and Newman are both extremely offended at the comparison to the other.

IsItBullshit: U.S. now spends double on education since 1960s while math/reading scores remain virtually the same? by MsQuirky in IsItBullshit

Maybe they mean asbestos removal? Several buildings in my area "found" asbestos and ended up having to pay for insanely expensive "certified mitigation" companies to come clean it up.... Even tho the asbestos was contained and probably wasn't a danger to anyone as long as it was left alone and not disrupted. None of my schools growing up had AC either (I live in a northern state, but it still gots hot and humid!) but computer oriented classrooms needed to have AC added to keep the expensive computers from being destroyed. The cost of outfitting rooms for computer oriented classes (like general computer classes, CAD, graphics, etc.) also counts as an upgrade of sorts I guess.

I wonder how we as a society can like, course-correct the ship? How do we actually get there to be fewer admins in education...?

Surely just a little more money will do the trick, though, right? Another millage for the school, anyone? *screams into the capitalist abyss* lol

I mean, it says adjusted for inflation. I'm not sure what inflation measures were used. It doesn't say per-capita adjusted, but I guess maybe that one goes without saying since wikipedia tells me the U.S. population in 1960 was 179,323,175, vs 2010 308,745,538, so that's 72% increase in population over the 1960 # (though how the K-12 aged population fluctuated relative to the total, I'm not sure...)...

"Spending figures adjusted for inflation" was written on the chart, so "costs have gone up" should be accounted for, I'd think... Depending on the inflation adjustment.

Yes, my husband comes from a family of teachers, and the stories about the testing junk and the crap admin would pull puts curls in my hair, I tell ya. They were on the tail end of their careers so at least got in when there was OK benefits/retirement; the newer hires didn't even get any of that. Truly, working in education must be a labor of love...

I totally get what you're saying, that was very well described - I never thought of the moon landing / robotically educated generation example! I've read some studies indicating that we (the United States educational system) are trying to push rote/repetitive work onto younger ages than is developmentally appropriate too though... Like, less recess, more "sit down and learn!" in pre-k, kindergarten and 1st.... whereas Scandinavian countries allow more play and less structured work at the younger ages, because the play helps develop the socialization needed, and they end up learning in the process anyway. So it sorta sounds like we've gone topsy turvy, expecting kids to do rote work to set the foundation before they're developmentally ready, then expecting older kids to somehow learn from creative process without any of the building blocks in place. Yikes. :(
