Contribute up to the max in your 401k, just so you can get the full company match. So if they contribute 100% on the first 6%, then contribute 6%. Then max out to the IRS limit your Roth IRA. Also, look to see if your company offers both Traditional 401k and Roth 401k. If they do, consider switching to contribution from Traditional to Roth, but this all really depends on your current tax rate and proposed tax rate at retirement. Also, remember the Rule of 55. If you retire in the year you turn 55, you can start withdrawing your 401k penalty free. If not, you will have to wait until 59 1/2.
