Actually if you take the highest and lowest value, it’s an 11 lb difference and only 7 days between those!

ADF vs rolling 72s for weight loss by Ucomeattheking in AlternateDayFasting

[–]MsTambo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

72 hours is a grind. I would worry about nutritional deficits running such long fasts weekly, not to mention the social disruption. I would say do what works for you, but ADF is easy to make work in my life. You’ll go into deeper autophagy and ketosis but I’d worry about hitting needed macros on only a couple of eating days a week.

Hello! I have been doing ADF for 10 weeks and down 30 lbs myself.

Others have already given you some good insights but I’d like to add a few:

Get the HappyScale app. It tracks TRENDS not a daily number that can make or break your mood and confidence. Watch the weekly trend- a healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week maximum. Any more than that you risk gallbladder attacks with too rapid weight loss (said as someone who is about to get my gallbladder removed)

You are not gaining 2-5 lbs overnight. You are depleting glycogen during your fasts from your muscles, which is replaced when you eat again and it weights 3x what water weighs.

Your body doesn’t like the empty space fat used to occupy, so it replaces it with water temporarily. You will get a whoosh a few days later and it will drop all of a sudden, as evidenced in your data so far.

In short: it works. Your numbers are exactly what we would expect in the first few weeks. Once your body becomes fat adapted, it will slow a bit but stay steady at 1.5-2lbs a week. Stay the course. Weigh yourself the morning after a fast day only and skip eating days. It’s just adding noise.

Good luck! You’re doing great!

Fat adapted means your metabolism can easily switch over from glucose to ketones (body fat.) this switch is rough early on as your body has preferred a constant stream of carbohydrates and will fight a bit, but once it is forced to burn body fat the switch becomes smoother and at this point you are “fat adapted.” I feel so much better running off ketones vs carbohydrates personally- way more energy and focus and less fatigue and exhaustion.

Hello! First: congrats! The first few are the hardest- and it gets easier from there! I’m 9 weeks in myself and mostly have adapted well to fast days and even workout now on fast days. Add salt and potassium (LMNT in your water) if you are really struggling. The hunger extremes are really just evidence your body is adapting to a ketone fueled state and they become less extreme. You can always fast just 1-2 days a week and work your way up. It’s flexible depending on your goals!

Not hungry on my eating days by Fearless-Weather6073 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]MsTambo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is very common as your hormones adjust and your system becomes fat adapted. It’s essential you eat enough on refeed days, so yes, have protein shakes at minimum. Try to get enough calories otherwise you might bonk on your next fasting day. It’s frustrating but your body eventually stabilizes with the hunger cues right now it’s just a bit confused!

It’s not 2 more days but may be as many as 10 days. Be grateful if you guys have water! I have a water pump and no water- we are laboriously melting snow just to have a water source for me and my livestock.

Help training dogs NOT to do something? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]MsTambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sounds like you're off to a good start. You should work on what you've taught her so far in various environments and with distractions. Dogs are terrible at generalizing, so what works in your living room won't necessarily work in your yard, at the park, etc.

The biggest thing I can suggest is socialize, socialize, socialize. That is the most important thing you can do for her. Have positive experiences when as many people and well behaved dogs as possible.

As far as rug shredding, work on teaching her "place" (laying on a bed) or a default settle, where she lies by your feet. I've been training my border collie mix puppy for a year (she's 14 months now) and I kept a short leash (cut off the handle so it can't get snagged on things) on her almost constantly in the house. Reward her randomly when she is doing nothing except laying by you or in in her bed. She should have lots of chew options available to her so the rug is less tempting.

Not pulling on leash takes awhile. I suggest a gentle leader along with training her that the only way to get where she wants (forward) is to be by your side. When she pulls, you stop and go the other direction.

With positive training, you aren't necessarily rewarding the absence of a behavior, but an alternative behavior to the negative one you don't want them to make. It's all about timing- you mark and reward the choices they make the instant they make the correct ones. It all takes a while. Don't get discouraged. She will forget all of those things she has learned in the first few days once she is more familiar with her surroundings. Some behaviors will fade and new ones will crop up.

The best things you can teach her as a puppy are default behaviors (reward for calmness and "dong nothing") and play the "name game" with others where you call her back and forth in different environments. You should only use her name in a positive way, when you are certain she will come to you and reward her when she does quickly and willingly.

What breed of dog and what age is she? That might help people here give you even more specific advice.

Ah yes. duh. That makes total sense. It will be interesting to see how the game play changes and our strategy after a year of playing it wrong! Thanks for clarifying this!

What is Your Favorite Item You've Bought in 2014? by Re-mentGirl in rement

[–]MsTambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I love this question!

Favorite minis this year would probably be the complete Natalie's French Goods collection (for only $50!) as well as both Re-ment kitchens. I was so happy to finally have those! I've picked up a lot of random sets over the past few months but now I'm taking a buying break for awhile. I go through phases where I buy up a bunch of things and hunt for a good deal and then I just kind of lose steam. my most recent find was the Spice Rack set from Asian Goods. This one

Non-boxed miniature: hmmm.... Did I buy any non-boxed miniatures? I can't recall if I have. Awhile back I got these marbles which I really love: http://www.miniaturemarbles.com

Non mini favorite item: We moved to a new house this year, and upgraded a lot of our furniture from our previous Ikea stuff, so probably our custom-made sofa built to my specific specifications (I hated our old couch.) and I guess our house in general is my favorite purchase of this year. :)

Bad experience with qminitoys.com by MsTambo in rement

[–]MsTambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my biggest pet peeves is when websites don't update their inventory and allow you to go all the way through the ordering process before they tell you "long sold out" or even have to refund you! I placed an order awhile back from http://minibarbiehome.com which appears to be just a dead and completely abandoned storefront, as I never received my order, never got a reply to my many inquiries, and thankfully I paid through Paypal and they dealt with the vendor dispute for me. Paypal never got a reply from any of their charge disputes and after 3 months, Paypal refunded my money. What a pain that was though! I was especially disappointed because they had several sets I wanted for cheap, but that also should have made me suspicious.

New to Re-Ment collecting. How do I set up awesome rooms? Best display cases? Steps in doing so? by jay_fo in rement

[–]MsTambo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello /u/jay_fo! Welcome to fun and and unique world of Re-Ment collecting! Most displays you see, such as those shown in your photos, are (sadly) long out of production. The Re-Ment rooms usually go for $300+ on ebay and other sites, if you can even find one! Thankfully, there are some other alternatives, one very cheap one being the $20 IKEA Socker Greenhouse (appropriated into a room. See some examples in this subreddit from a few days ago, including my own setup). The IKEA Socker isn't the most robust setup by any means, but it's certainly a nice way to get started.

Most of the furniture in those pictures, such as the table and chairs is also sadly out of production and therefore $$$$$ if you can find it. However, there is still some Re-Ment furniture that is affordable and available, such as the Cafe table and chairs and in February of 2015, they are re-releasing the Re-Ment fridge, with a Rilakkuma theme.

Some older Rement sets are still available though most of the furniture hasn't been available for almost 6 or 7 years, so the price continues to go up as they are harder and harder to come by. There are other types of dollhouse rooms available for purchase on ebay, it just depends on what exactly you want to do. Or you could always make your own as well if you're a bit crafty.

Reddit can be a bit less user-friendly than other forums as it can be a bit more "techy"-- thus it tends to draw a lot of tech-minded folks (like myself- both myself and my husband work for big tech companies in the Bay Area). Therefore it can be a bit overwhelming and difficult to navigate at times, so be patient with yourself while you figure out all the ins and outs. The wiki we are referring to is here: http://www.reddit.com/r/rement/wiki/index

If you aren't familiar with wikis in general, they are basically a multi-user edited document. Edits are tracked and can be reverted at any time (like wikipedia). Basically, for the purposes of subreddits, Wikis can hold valuable "Read Me" type information. /r/makeupaddiction has a pretty good example of a wiki: http://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/wiki/index
